Hey y'all !
A friend of mine from New York/Buenos Aires mailed me the following problem,
asking if anyone could help out with this.
Problem description:
Computer model: Panasonic FS-A1FM (picture here: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2353/2208998714_060245998e.jpg)
Problem: Disk drive seems to be misaligned. Can read and write to floppies made with it, doesn't read disks made on other computers, disks made with it are not readable in other computers. Used to work for like 10 minutes, then it started to do this.
Possible solutions: Change disk drive (any Panasonic MSX drive will do I thik it's the same for Turbo Rs), fix disk drive (how?), replace with standard PC diskdrive (HOW?)

It is a different diskdrive as the Turbo-R
It is a look-a-like Philips 8245 drive.
Replace the drive-belt

Hey guys, thanks poke for posting for me, I didn't know this forum spoke in english Sorry!
Hello Repair-Bas.
I didn't know the drive was of that type.
This drive doens't have a problem in the drive belt. It has a new one, I checked it myself, and if the drive belt was broken, it wouldn't read any disk (drive can't spin), but as I said, the belt works fine (I said, it reads and writes disks made within the computer itself).
So are you sure this is a Philips 8245 drive?
Do you sell these drives? How much do they cost, and would you give me a valid guarantee of this drive working in my unit, or the possibility of a full refund in case it doesn't work?
Thanks! |

It is not exactly the same drive.
But if the belt is not the correct one, then you get problems, to big or to small!!!
If you are sure that the belt not is the problem I have to look what type you can use.
Shipping to the USA is expansive, so refund is not possible, because I made costs.

Hello there,
I tried putting a new belt in there. I got a Panasonic replacement belt from Japan. The drive now works ut it seems misaligned. Some stuff it doesnt read, gives read erors all teh time. Alternatively, if I format a disk and I put it in my Amiga, theAmiga when trying to write to it keeps giving read errors, CRC eros, etc.
How can I align this disk drive? I had this computrer for 8 years and I never been able to use it fully
Please help! |
