Symbian emulator?

Okay... I implemented zipping for the save sates, the code takes approx 2kB, but I'd say it was worth it, "plain" MSX2 save state file is now less than 8kB (taken from BASIC prompt).

Also, snout, I think I got what you meant. I changed the load state behaviour so that it instantly resumes the emulation when the saved state has been loaded (without confirmation notes).

Anything else? Or is this enough for a 1.01 release? =)

I hope some kind of chatboard will become available for my Nokia3650. I really would like to be able to control the emulator a bit easier with a QWERTY-keyboard.

That looks pretty fancy The 3650 isn't listed as a compatible phone, though. Probably, it still works, don't you think?

Hmmm... maybe not, unless they have some sort of add-on driver for it for the 3650.

Somebody mentioned cheating here before; would it be of any use to include a trainer feature in the emulator? Like freezing the contents of specific RAM locations and providing a simple UI to patch ROMs after they have been loaded? Perhaps not, as it's possible to change the ROM files already before using them in the emulator... I know, I made a "trainer" version of Salamander ROM some time ago because I wanted to see how it ends... it was just too difficult back when I used to play the real thing on my MSX =)

Anyway, I'll upload v1.01 of the emulator some day next week as soon as I have time to package it.

Hi jr, I've tried to download the toolset, which is called 'Download PC tool set for creating install packages from system ROM and cartridge ROM images.'. Unfortunately, that link (on http://personal.inet.fi/private/riihimaki/s60/) doesn't quite work... Could you possibly fix it?

Hmm... it seems to work for me. Perhaps you have a cached version of the page on your browser with a link to the previous version's ZIP file... that wouldn't work. Try clearing the cache and reloading the page. If it still doesn't work, you can try using the direct URL of the ZIP, it's http://personal.inet.fi/private/riihimaki/s60/sw/fmsx_romtools_101.zip

As always, great new version jr!

Just a question... I'm not *so* expert in MSX system, could someone please explain me why KPIBALL (an awesome Pang clone) has no music and just sound effects? Is there some sound chip/feature still not emulated in fMSX? Too bad, I tried running KPIBALL on a MSX emu for PC and the musics are awesome! If can be of any help when I run my kpiball.dsk I get this message "music module not found"....

MSX has different optional sound chips. Among them are SCC, OPLL (FM-PAC, FM-Ship, FM-PAK), OPL1 (the Music Module, MSX-Audio), OPL4 (Sunrise Moonsound). KPI-Ball uses PSG sound effects (PSG->Programmable Sound Generator, it's available in every MSX, MSX2, MSX2+, MSX Turbo R). It uses FM-PAC or compatible for music. So if you don't have a FM-PAC yourself, you won't have any music, only sound effects. KPI-Ball also supports MSX-Audio/Music Module and compatibles. But again, if you don't have such a cartridge, you're in big trouble ^^;

Most emulators (to be honest, all currently used emulators) also emulate FM-PAC and Music Module. So that's the answer to your question

Thanks for the explanation man! So, to sum it up, if I have the fmpac.rom inside the fmsx/ROM directory I should ear music? Well I have that rom (downloaded it from the official fMSX site) in the ROM dir and I still get no music, what am I missing (yes I enabled FM-PAC in the options)?

I don't know what the music module is that KPI-Ball is looking for, but if it is MSX-Audio, that is not supported by the emulator. Only PSG, SCC(+) and OPLL are supported. It does say "External FM found" though when you have the FM-PAC cartridge inserted.

[D]J, maybe the fmpac.rom is only the OPLL chip (which is the source of the nice music). Most programs check for the availability of the OPLL chip by looking into the ROM (software) itself. So, if the fmpac.rom only contains the OPLL chip and no software, some programs won't recognize it, and thus disable the OPLL music.
Maybe you should try downloading NLMSX 0.46 which contains a correct FMPAC.ROM, IIRC
