Hi Folks,

I''m busy with some people to get parts and estimated costs for producing the MSX-Audio extension board made by FRS.

Before I actually invest money to produce the thing I would like to know if you are interest in obtaining that board.

I'm thinking of serving you a la carte. That means the following:

1) You can buy the produced print, without any components. It's up to you to get the parts needed for this upgrade, including all the soldering.

2) You can buy the print and all the needed parts. A complete DIY set.

3) You can buy the print with all the components on it. You just have to solder the print to your Music Module yourself.

4) The most expensive option: You mail/carry your Music Module in and get it back as a fully working MSX Audio module.

Of course a combination of the above options can also be possible, depending on needs.

At the moment I'm busy with some companies to get detailed price information for the print and the needed parts. Some parts are obsolete and need to be obtained from pc computer junk.

I also need people who already made this themselves to come up with replacement parts that will also work for as much components as possible. I already read about the SD-RAM chip in earlier posts, but the more part numbers the better!

Also: if you have needed parts lying around of earlier DIY projects you won't carry out please do consider selling those / donate those to me.

Another thing to consider is this: Costs of producing the print depends on needed quality and quantity. Most of the time there are some start-up costs involved before production can start.

Let me know your thoughts and needs. And please stay on topic. I already know there are better sounding modules.

If you don't know what this is all about, look this news post:
http://www.msx.org/MSX-Audio-BIOS-upgrade-design-released.newspost5066.html

I would be interested about option 2 or 3 (I think option 2 comes with ready burned EPROM)

How ever it depends of the price...

Looks very sexy! Too bad my Philips Music Module is already extended to 256KB by some past owner.

Does this board work with Toshiba unit?

FRS made a schematic for the Toshiba, I believe it suffers from background noise and has to be adjusted by someone with knowledge of analogue audio. I guess owning a Toshiba module helps too.

Estimates (no actual offers seen)

Prints above 10 pieces: 17 euro each.
Components: 20 euro (that is if you buy them new, which is impossible for some parts anyway). My aim to to gather all the components secondhand, or at least most of them. Some of my Philips Matrix printers will die in the process 'm afraid.

The Eprom new for example will cost 6 euro. But you could consider mail yours or another in. Etc.etc.

And that also why this is commercially not very interesting. I mean, 37 euro without any soldering isn't cheap already. Let alone if you hire some to solder all the parts. If such person charge 40 euro for that work, it won't sell.

Looks nice!

Why is there also an 8k SRAM, where is it used for?

You have to ask FRS (sd_snatcher) that. Hopefully he will join this discussion.

Unlike MSX-Music MSX-Audio commands do not use TPA memory at all. This means that it needs 4KB of own RAM. How ever 4KB SRAM chips are not available, so 8KB chip has been used instead.
