I am allmost ready to have a small lot of 10 PCBs produced for a V2.2 SD interface originally designed by sharksym. There will be 2 SD slots present.
The PCB should fit in a konami size cartridge casing and this casing will not be included.
Total costs for this all will be around €42,50 excl shipping costs for a complete working PCB.
Final costs will be determined after receipt of the first lot of PCBs and getting the first one working
Anyone interested in this device can either respond on this topic or send me an email (evanson (a) quicknet nl)
Be aware that it will take some time for me to get all the stuff and any updates will be posted in this thread.

Wait, wait, so the PCB will have a SCC chip? Or is it replaces SCC with compatible mapper?

There will be no SCC chip on this PCB. Mapper logic is built in the CPLD as well as the SD logic.
Also there is no SCC music implementation present. Only SD / MMC logic.

That's the beauty of this SD/MMC card reader - you don't need to find SCC cartridge and break it, and it's cheap.
sinfox's version of SD/MMC drive with SCC chip will cost you 2 times more, and the closest similar device - CF ATA-IDE - costs more than 60 euro.

Can I use the SD/MMC with a SCC cart on the second slot? Or would I need to adapt the .ROMS to look for the SCC on a different slot?

Erikie, please post some photos if possible! Also, do you think it's possible to add soldering space for optional alpha-numeric 16x2 LCD (example) in future versions? That would be kick-buttocks

this version works in any primary slot and I am still looking into modifying roms / support programs to support expanded slots too
I have no images yet but can make an image of my prototype if you would like to see that?

I want one! Count me in.

Another good reason to choose this SD/MMC reader is the fact that it runs on MSX1 too.

casing is not included, however I might have one lying around. But you have to drill holes etc yourself then
I hope to start the order for PCBs this week or early next week

That's what I like to know too.
Can you use this SD device together with a SCC cart in the other slot ?
In other words : is it possible to load a disk version of a SCC game with this device while using a SCC cart in the other slot to have SCC sound
If this is possible, you can sign me up for one

Excellent! I'd be very interested in one too, even though I don't need it that much ATM. Erikie, before ordering up a batch of these PCB's: could you try and find out if it's possible to have these made with gold(plated) contacts? It may be much more difficult to get / expensive, but if possible: might be worth it. Tinned contacts are fine when all shiny and new, but when corroded enough (doesn't take long) you *will* appreciate gold contacts. Other things (like case, LED's, software etc.) could be done by end-users, but to put gold contacts on a PCB is not a DIY option

Anyway, it's about time Sunrise's CF-ATA interface got some competition. It's a nice piece of kit, but a) it's expensive, b) rather big cartridge, c) SD cards are more convenient these days, and -most importantly- d) damn near impossible to obtain one.

gold plated contacts are no issue. My v1.0 also had them I will ask again for those on this batch. It is indeed a bit more expensive but not too much.

And SD can be used together with scc rom in other slot as long as the game has scc detection or manual selection option.
I will try to play a dsk version of an scc rom and let you know if it works. Need to find one though as I only use roms in flash rom
