[OT] I can see, sometimes in forums, after someone ask something, thread stops immedietely
So this morning I have a big inspiration, so I write this cover of Iron Maiden's Fear Of The Dark:
Fear of enribar
(Iron M. - enribar)
I am a man who write alone
When I access to MSX Resource
Night and day, through the threads
When the trend begins to change
It really seems to me so strange
A little answer breaks the blue
Fear of enribar, fear of enribar
They have a constant fear of something
I could ask
Fear of enribar, fear of enribar
They have a phobia that someone's
to answer there

Could it be a contest? |

ok ok , i ll try to give my point of view ( otherwise it may start rainning ):
- i think ocm is fpga ( lot of gate ) and erikie's iscpld ( very few gates )
- the idea you have is i think use Hardware + Software ( BIOS) of megaSD ?
But the hardware is not only defined by the cpld , some address lines for instances could be hardwired on the pcb , so you cant change everything
on erikie's deisgn .
So with some luck it can make it but i have lot of doubts !
I think in OCM there is some code to load the ROMS from SD , would that interfere ?
... not really clear answer just a few observations ...

Hi Leo, thanks for the reply
I made a test with the OCM's modified MSX-DOS 2, FAT16 version for the SD reader. Copied it on a 2GB SD card, and the Erikie's V2.2 can see 2GBs. But I'm not sure if it's a fake...
We always concentrate on BIOS troubles, could it be a DOS version matter, instead? |

I hope it's the soluce only my Erikie's v2.2 still can't see SD FAT 16
command2.com v2.41 + msxdos2.sys v2.20 + Okei v0.12
same result with msxdos2.sys v2.31

I'm very sorry for my n00biness, but I can't even get to the installer... When I boot my MSX-1 with SD interface inserted, I only get "Enter date (D-M-Y). I then tried to enter 08-02-2010 and pressed enter. But I only I get to the "standard" msx basic screen... How should I get to the installer?
I followed the (gladly very detailed) manual, but it seems my knowledge on msx is not quite good enough
SD v.2.2, 4.03 bios |

on MSX1 you dont have clock chip and you have only 64kb of ram, so no DOS2.
So the card boots into DOS1 rom and asks for date.
The DOS1 rom looks for msxdos.sys and command.com file.
By default these files are not installed , only command2.com and msxdos2.sys are installed.
i think you need an msx2 to prepare a card and then use it on that msx1.
just curious do you have
"msx basic v1.0" + "disk basic v1.0" or
msx basic v1.0 + "disk basic v2.0"
or just the msx basic v1.0 message ?
when you type "files" what do you have ?
are you using svi 738 ?
if you are able to copy command.com and msxdos.sys on the interface ( it has internal flash disk for utilities nd install utilities ) you are saved : do you have floppy disk interface ?

Hi.
I have a Canon V-20 MSX basic 1.0 and Disk Basic 1.0. "files" outputs the following:
MSXDOS 2.SYS
COMMAND2.COM
AUTOEXE2.BAT
AUTOEXEC.BAT
COPYA2B .BAT
COPYSYS1.BAT
COPYSYS2.BAT
INSTALL .COM
... so it seems that the install.com actually is there But there are spaces in the file names, or have I completely lost it How do I substitute a space in a fileneme in msx basic? Or is my problem not as straightforward as i hope? (just wrong file name)
*edit*
I read your post again No floppy here... In the specs it says minimum is a MSX-1 with 64k, so I thought it really is the minimum. |

As Leo said, you need MSX-DOS 1 system files on it: MSXDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM. Otherwise, no DOS for your MSX, as MSX-DOS2 won't run on it.

To update bios, you have to choose between 3 ROMs.
MMCDISK1.ROM is designed for msxdos 1 user.
Only slot1 card is mapped drive A:\ & B:\ (see manual PDF page 8).

Ok, so I cannot get this working wihtout a MSX2 computer, right? (no floppy -> no updating the bios to MMCDISK1.ROM) There's an "auto update" with the Flashman.com, but I guess that also only works with MSX-DOS2, right? In the manual the flashman.com is run like this: "C:>flashman" Sorry to ask this, but am I supposed to be able to use a "C-drive" in MSX-DOS1?
I really would not want to buy another retrocomp just for setting this up, so any volunteers to "install" the MMCDISK1.ROM to my sd-card for a small fee? |

Ok, found out that slot1 can be used for Drive C: The changelog also says flashman can be used in DOS1. So do I put the MMCDISK1.ROM on the fat16-formatted sd-card and boot the msx with the sd-card in slot1? Then it should be available as drive c:? Could someone shed some light on this, please |

olliraa, I think you might want to read the manual
http://sharksym.egloos.com/4558402
quote:
MMCDISK1.ROM:
It is designed for MSX-DOS1 user.
Built-in Flash-Disk is preformatted as DOS1 boot-disk.
And it contains install-files and other disk-tools.
Unfortunately DOS1’s slave DiskROM supports only two drives. (A: and B
So, even if you have two card slots with MMC/SD Drive, you cannot use slot2 card.
Only slot1 card is mapped drive A: & B:.
If you have only 64KB RAM or use MSX1/2/2+, you should use this ROM. |
