Oh ok, so it's basically a softsynth, exactly like plugins today. Interesting :-)
It has a DCO and a DCF, which clearly makes it a classic subtractive synth, not FM. (Or did I miss something in the manual?)
...Which makes sense, since there's already FM-PAC & MSX-MUSIC for that.
Yeah one channel only, but a softsynth is already quite a challenge for the Z80 :-D
Monosynths are very popular even today, so it's not really a limitation, just a different kind of an instrument. This cart is clearly meant for musicians as a synth to be used together with other instruments in a studio.

The FM-PAC is a MSX-MUSIC + PAC.

Yeah, I was also surprised by the filter, because that's the most CPU-intensive part... And it has resonance too. I wonder how resonant it is :-)
