Or at least have some decent horizontal scrolling. Tongue

Yeah, I think if they would’ve introduced just that single feature in the V9938 in stead of the V9958, our games would look a lot different.

Didn't someone at Konami say that Vampire Killer's room-by-room progression inspired them to design Dracula's castle in Symphony of the Night with rooms as well? And La-Mulana too is a great testament of how awesome MSX games managed to be without (smooth) horizontal scrolling.

Then again, it would've made so many NES titles possible on MSX.

Sanyo PHC-77 (the portable setup)
Sony HB-T7 (modem)

Would be great to see dumps and internals of those!

PHC-77 is too hard to open and, as pointed by mars2000you, usbsecretbase already have the pics. But I can do the software dumps if you want.

I will try to take pictures and dumps of HB-T7.

This has been my dream computer ever since I saw pictures of it in MSX Club Magazine. The model, the color, the keyboard, the dashboard/control panel thing, it just looks so bad-ass! I know the GT is the better turboR, but I like the looks of the ST best.

Sorry guy, this is the better TurboR ;)

The roms of HB-T7 and HB-T600 have already been dumped.

Some years ago, Italian MSX fan Nrgo had tried to dump the roms of HB-T7, but he failed to get the complete firmware rom (he could only get the first 32kb).

Some months ago, I've downladed the file on this site : http://bitcycle.org/retro/msx/
Contrary to what it's indicated, it's the roms of the HB-T600 in one big EPROM dump. By extracting the different roms, I've found out that the first 32 kb of the firmware corresponds to the 32 kb dumped by Nrgo. The BIOS+BASIC, EXT and firmware roms are exactly the same on both computers, the only differences are the disk rom and 128kB RAM (instead of 64kB) for HB-T600.

Both machines have also a Sony Kanji ROM 128kB.

This site explains that, with the internal configs :

Nostalgia Section (I liked Piter Punk's idea)
When I was a kid, I "had" a "Gradiente Expert DDPlus" (borrowed from my cousin) and my father had a "Sharp Hotbit" at work (it controlled a huge electronic panel - using small light bulbs - that showed 24 8x8 redefined characters with transition animations). After some time my father bought me a PC and I returned the DDPlus. Both MSX got lost in time. 18 years later, I bought my first MSX, a Panasonic FS-A1WX, which I sold a couple months ago because I needed the money.

  • Gradiente Expert DDPlus + Gradiente MBW-12 monochrome monitor (green phospor)
  • Sharp Hotbit 1.2 + DMX disk drive interface 1.2 + DMX 3.5" 720kB disk drive.
  • Panasonic FS-A1WX expanded to 256kB (and later 512kB)

Present Time Section
I have some MSX, but I have listed only the ones I use most and/or don't think I'll ever sell. Maybe I'll get a MSX2 and/or a 2+ to be on this list, but I'm not even saving for them right now.

  • Panasonic FS-A1GT - Dream fullfilled Running Naked in a Field of Flowers modded to 1MB RAM by l_oliveira
  • Toshiba HX-22 - MSX1 with Stereo PSG outputs, RGB output and RS232C port
  • Gradiente Expert GPC1 - Fully socketed MSX1 with RGB output and keyboard to share with my other Expert
  • Gradiente Expert GPC1 fitted with CIEL 2+ Turbo board - Fully discrete (no MSX-Engine, only 74LS chips) MSX2+ with turbo

Thanks a lot for all of this! PHC-77 ROM dumps would still be great Smile If I get more information on that MSX-Write stuff, I'll let you know.

OK, good news, MSX Write is now supported by openMSX. Thanks to Rudolf Lechleitner for putting a hint in his 0.48 source code about the switch address and to BiFi for finding that and finding the other switch address.
In case you're interested, it's an ASCII16 mapper with 2 extra switch addresses: 0x6FFF and 0x7FFF.

So, PiterPunk, if you can get the software side dumping (I hope including the MSXMEM and ident.bas tool and keyboard test), I can make a configuration for this machine for openMSX Smile

By the way, does someone have a real MSX Write cartridge? I wonder if it includes a Kanji font ROM.

Maybe !

The second version of MSX-Write has a switch to enable or disable the Kanji part of the rom :

http://bubrhythm.net/Retorhythm/msx-write2.html

Disabling is useful if you use a computer with a built-in Kanji rom.

If it does, I'd like to get that dumped and the cartridge emulated with the font ROM included, of course Smile
