Pimp my PSG challenge - closed | MSX Resource Center

On February 1st, 2016, we started the Pimp my PSG challenge on MRC. The goal: create a remix of an MSX PSG song in whatever form you like and with whatever hardware you want. A number of MSX composers rose to the call and answered as musicians tend to do, with fresh new music!

Now, 2 months later, the challenge has met its deadline and the remixes are in, available for your enjoyment, and for the former members of Impact to judge! The winner will go home with eternal fame and glory, boundless appreciation by the MSX community world wide and of course some nice prizes.

As a recap, here's an overview of all the entries made for the challenge:

MRC would like to thank all the contestants for their hard work in bringing these fresh new MSX songs. Now all that remains is for you to enjoy these tracks and for Impact to judge them and choose a winner. The jury will have a hard (and therefore probably long) time to come up with a verdict, but don't let that stop you from sharing with us in the comments which entry you like best!

Crap! Missed the submission time. Instead of checking what CET meant, I just assumed, and assumed wrong. Well, I shouldn't have left the finishing touches of my would-be submission to the last minutes. Congratulations to all participants!

Why not submit it anyway as a bonus entry? It won't be able to participate, but we can add it to the downloads and the newspost for people to enjoy!

Poke -1,170 his rendition of the Thexder theme is the absolute winner for me. Also like Star Force by [WYZ] a lot!

Kid Cnoz made the best Moonsound tune I'd say. Great to have him back in the scene!!!

And of course kudos to Meits for his unusual setup

@Jorito: I will, thank you very much. I'm a little ashamed by it because it's not on the same level of the other work here. But at least it is something new.

@JohnHassink: Awesome, Penguin Adventure is the best. Very nice minimedley, btw. Reproducing Penguin Adventure music in TriloTracker must have been a fun challenge. I will post my work to SoundCloud, at least.

@Latok: Meits just hit it out of the park.

Glad it turned out like this. I had a hard head in it reaching enough participants for this rather stripped challenge. At first I had the feeling that Frankenstein setup I used discouraged other people. But in the end I'm happy enough people saw staight through that and relized it's rather easy to do better than that on just one chip.
I'd like to thank Poke -1,170 and Hans Cnossen to join after some encouragement. You guys delivered genuine MSX tunes I can listen to in repeat mode for rather long without the arrangement nor the sound colours start to get boring.
Hat off for Jorito's great tune, Yzi and Wyz' surprise appearance and FranSX' nice Spanish tunes.

Two main goals of this competition have been reached: Tunes for us all to enjoy and last but not least have the guys of Impact meet each other again after decades. Quite a reunion party that must be. I'm awaiting the stories and pictures
Now let's see what the guys can cook out of our notes.

9 entries, pretty sweet too bad Parn and John missed the deadline (I heard the work in progress on youtube and that sounded nice). Nice varied approach in styles,techniques and instrumentation overall

This is what I made for the challenge:

Dragon Slayer IV - Drasle Family - Opening Theme

It doesn't get even close to the other competitors, I just tried to make something that sounded Falcom-esque, using only OPLL+PSG. I used only BASIC for this in order to be playable in almost any MSX machine.

I suppose impact hasn't started judging the tracks anyway yet,so why not include Parn's track as well ?
Unless that's considered an absolute no in challenges land

in earlier challenges there were always some usual suspects too late (wolf_?)... they got the normal score minus something... it looks like this challenge is closed though...

With code attached, yeah.., easy to miss a deadline! Loose music entries (MP3) were in-time iirc.
