Dear All,

I have a plan to buy VHD player and MSX Palcom Laserdisc, and I need your help to answer the following questions:

1- Victor VHD player:
- Is VHD player can be connected to all MSX computers? turbo R GT in particular?
- Is it easy to be connected ?
- I saw different models, HD-7900, HD- 8900, HD-9300, HD-9500 and one interface only IF-7900, is this interface works with all models ? or HD-7900 ? Is there any Interface Carts for other models ?

2- MSX Palcom Laserdisc:
- I saw different models ... what is the best model ?
- I think Pioneer Lsaserdisc player sold separately, so ... Can I connect Pioneer Lsaserdisc player with any other MSX computer ? or it must be connected to Pioneer MSX computer (I mean as a one set) ?

I am waiting fir the answers, then I will post "Looking For VHD player and MSX Palcom Laserdisc" in Trading and Collecting Forum.

Thanks and regards,

Sniper

Regarding 2: Best model is Pioneer PX-7 (Japanese version).

And it is the best model because…? Smile

Because it's got stereo instead of mono on the PX-V60.

Ah yes, that’s a nice feature.

Wasn’t there also something about laserdisc compatibility with Japanese vs. European models?

Yes, mixing/superimposing 50Hz PAL with 60Hz NTSC just might not work very well !

As all MSX laserdiscs are NTSC you can only use an NTSC MSX computer to superimpose on it. So buying the UK version of the PX-7 is useless.

For VHD, have a look here: https://www.msx.org/wiki/VHD

There are actually 4 known VHD interfaces for MSX, but very little info is known about them.

Besides, the VHD interface is not enough if the used computer does not have superimposing capacities.

So, basically, it means
NTSC MSX computer with superimposing features + VHD interface
OR
NTSC MSX computer without superimposing features + superimposing expansion + VHD interface

To make the things more complicated, it seems that the interfaces are only for some computers of the same company:
* National interface for some National computers
* Toshiba interface for some Toshiba computers
* 1st Victor interface only for some MSX1 Victor computers
* 2nd Victor interface only for Victor HC-90 and HC-95 MSX2 computers

We don't have infos about the other NTSC MSX computers (especially for the Sony computers with extra superimposing unit) and we ignore if some VHDpc players are incompatible with some interfaces.

For the LaserDiscs, it's similar:
NTSC MSX Pioneer computer (has superimposing features + built-in interface with ROM)
OR
NTSC MSX computer other than Pioneer + external interface Pioneer ER-101 with superimposing features and ROM (is compatible with only a few computers!)

VHD setups are so rare that only very limited technical information is available... LD systems are less rare, but if you plan to play the MSX games made for it, you need Japanese version of Pioneer MSX + the related hardware as explained... IIRC LD needs to have NEC-compatible remote control input and serial is not DIN although connector looks very similar.

Now that we are here... I accidentally yesterday bought Victor superimposing cardridge... Is there some standard how they work? Can someone give a hint, how to control it, or should I just experiment? Maybe some I/O ports , BASIC-commands or...

This interface : https://www.msx.org/wiki/Victor_HC-A602S ?

It's only for a few MSX1 Victor computers. I don't know if it includes BASIC instructions, this interface 'transforms' a HC-5, HC-6 or HC-60 into a HC-7, which has built-in superimposing capacities, but the firmware ROM of the HC-7 is not yet dumped.

Also this cartridge : http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/victor-co-of-japan-jvc... is a good candidate for the eventual superimposing BASIC instructions. Of course not yet dumped!

You will for sure find BASIC instructions on the Victor VHD interfaces, whose the ROMs are still not yet dumped.
