Using this in games has always been the goal for me. The re-player won't be calculating any wave forms on the fly and the format and method I am currently have in mind is like VGM, which is kinda fast, but with some form of simple (RLE) compression, which is kinda slow. So, I am hoping to find a good balance in song size vs speed.
Whether or not it will all work out... only time will tell.
For those interested I just added a new song to the Realfun3 playlist on youtube: Mining Melancholy
Enjoy!
This is great stuff thanks for sharing.
Perhaps i should try RF3 again (last time i gave up after a few minutes )
I really, really love what you're able to make the SCC sound like. I've already loved the SCC since day 1, but you're bringing new life to it!
And we have a Realfun3 Z80 re-player! replayert
Not 100% accurate yet (some minor differences in wave forms and some looping issues with AY am and possibly noise channels)... so some tweaking still to be done... but we will get there.
For those interested in a little more technical details on memory and CPU usages refer to the following table:
song size waves cycles CPU use % (peak) 60 Hz 50 Hz ------------------------------------------- hydroc 15842 142 11804 20,0% 16,5% miners 17780 164 12368 20,9% 17,3% corridor 15105 244 12039 20,4% 16,8% staff 15525 119 12133 20,5% 16,9% metalsqd 27298 183 11005 18,6% 15,4% battle 18005 237 11898 20,1% 16,6% vector 8915 58 10018 16,9% 14,0%
A further break down is indicated with border color changes, where the color code is as follows:
light yellow - AY register update
light red - SCC register update
purple/magenta - SCC wave forms update
blue - SCC data processing
yellow - AY data processing
light green - position table / data processing
cyan - idle time
The number printed in the center of the screen is a peak CPU use counter which I used to calculate the peak CPU usages.
Oh, and if you want to try out yourselves you can get the latest Realfun3 and replayer disk image here: Realfun3
Very nice! Sounds already pretty good
That's some great progress! Keep it up I'm really looking forward what this gem will bring us.
I'm in love with it yet...
Hi all, I got a bit side tracked exploring some new sounds on the scc and just had to make this song cover: Soul Reaver
wow, pretty cool.
