There are so many things I’m impressed about. The colourfulness and smooth animation of the main character sprite. The slopes of the sand dunes. The sub-tile movement of the enemies. And especially the player sprite masking when walking behind environment.
I would love to read more about the technical aspects of how this was achieved .
Yeah, it looks like the enemies are tile based entirely and still move in 1 or 2 pixel steps. The main character seems to be a 3/4 layered sprite, and I assume the masking is done by modifying the sprite patterns on each animation frame? note the little plants also mask the main player sprite. Never seen anything like this, is super polished.
@enribar: I've not heard/read/understood XL2S has resumed development, they just published the prototype footage on YT. (But of course I'd be happy being told otherwise ;))
