Pretty please invert the logic of the SELECT key on boot. IOW, to enable the turbo by default, and if someone prefers to play it in sluggish mode they can hold the SELECT key.

I'm trying to test it on webMSX, but it's a PITA to get the turbo enabled every time.

That version is actually a save-state.. So hitting select probably won't work unless you do it after a reset.

Does anybody knows if there is a page 28 for this Final Fantasy manuals. The table of Contents mentions it, but it doens't seem to exist: https://archive.org/details/FinalFantasy1989JP/page/n29/mode...

Anyway any idea?

After a round of rigorous beta testing, I believe we've squashed all the bugs in translation... and I'm prepping for release. I've been working on the getting the manual translated to bundle it with the release, and we noticed that the last few pages in the manual scan on archive.org are missing... This is confirmed also by the staples in the scan and also the table of contents referencing a section not in the scan. If someone has the manual for Final Fantasy MSX, could you scan it (in high quality) and post it online?

The current version of the speed patch works great! At first glance, it's compatible with the fan translation, however, with files being expanded, data was shifted around. As a result, it has the unintended consequence of messing with save data. It messes with progression (most notably having Garland not present at the beginning of the game). I've released my Say DOS tool ahead of time to help assist with the remediation of the issue...

Preferably, the patcher is aware of where the sectors are situation in the file system or it patches the files directly. My goal is to merely translate the game so the translation will ship without improvements, but source code for the translation project will be provided.

See? He's messing with the timeline again! That's the point!
Jokes aside, what a great project and great work. I hope you will succeed.

The translation has been released:

Thanks, everyone!

Also, if you have a complete manual scan, let me know. The translation was released without a complete scan.

I don't have one right now, but I have a local friend with a manual. We're planning to bring it and my scanner together at the next Tokyo Retrocomputing meetup on the 05-27, so with luck they'll be a new, full scan on archive.org just after then. (I'll post a note about it here.)

In the meantime, if you are curious as to what's in those pages, there are some quickie photos here.

This is great new! Keep us posted!

Also, Pennywise, a famous fan translator I've worked with, is part of a disk preservation project called MIJET. They're going around and creating clean and accurate dumps of old Japanese floppy games. A surprising amount online are cracked builds. If you're willing to contribute, don't hesitate to drop a line. Here's the website with contact information:

http://mijet.eludevisibility.org/Preservation/

It would be nice to have a confirmed clean build of Final Fantasy MSX!
