Mr Ghost (Yuureikun) problem

What a great game! But I have one problem now: When I try to play the original cartridge on my A1WX MSX2+, the game doesn't recognize the joystick ports at all - it just only works with keyboard. The weird thing is that when I connect it to VG-8235, the ports seems to be working like they normally should. Does anyone know if this could be somekind of compatibility issue, or might it be something else?

And does anyone know how to beat that furry-kind-of-boss, which I got stuck on (I don't exactly remember the stage now)? There doesn't seem to be any walkthroughs for the game.

Yes, it is that one! I just checked the maps, and it should be in third stage. I tried to beat it few times about month ago, and if my memory serves me right, everytime I tried to attack it, it's black-furry spikes gave me some damage until I finally died (I couldn't lower it's energy enough at the same given time). I guess there must be some trick, which I haven't yet discovered.

But now this joystick thing bugs me so much, that I want to settle it first, before I try the game next time (I'm not very fond playing games with keyboard).

I haven't played this game for 15 years or so, but I think that this boss must be killed by shooting at him with the minighosts, not by using your body.

You should aim the fury ball's eyes. IIRC, I attacked him also with my body and tried to hide in the entry corridor. Don't remember exactly.
I cheated by saving emulator state every time I succeed hitting the boss, though.

Yes, of course it works - that is the really weird thing about this.
I just played Golvellius cartridge and Konami cartridges with the same joystick with no problems. I also tried Tac-2 joystick for Yuureikun with no luck either.

Yes, you indeed have to kill it with your ghosts, preferably not with your body.
It's not fur, those are spikes.

Tested it on my turboR with joypads connected to it and they all worked (even the, superior, keyboard ).

I had to test the ToSec version as this exellent game is still missing in my collection.....

Must be an incompatibility issue then. Very strange.

Now I tested the game with one Japanese joystick (Mitsubishi's one), and it miraculously worked, even though the joystick was bad and didn't work on the left side - but nonetheless worked still.

So to the conclusion:

European joysticks (I tested Arcade Turbo and Tac-2) work with european MSX2 (not tested the japanese joysticks here), and japanese joysticks seems to work with japanese MSX2(+), not the european ones. Kind of weird, since I haven't ever encountered anything like that ranging just to one single game.
