tried 3 different dumps of R-Type (the 384K are original versions, right?)

Same problem !

I have tested on a 8245 + V9958
Without FM PAC in slot 2, it works fine.
With FM PAC in slot 2 I have to use /U option to get the game working. So it seems R-Type does not work from a subslot when combined with FM PAC.

I think it could be nice to make a wiki about situations like this.
Do you think we can create a wiki about this?
At the moment we know that:

GAMES THAT WORKS BETTER ON MFLASHSCC+ with /U Option are:

METAL GEAR 2
SPACE MANBOW
R-TYPE
.....

Are you sure Space Manbow does not work without /U? AFAIK it works fine.

IIRC, Aliens 2 also needs /U option.
