User Luppie found a way to upgrade a Panasonic FS-A1FX with MSX-Music without using extra logic, just using the onboard connections for the YM2413 IC and components. The hard part was adding the MSX Music ROM to the machine, but he succeeded in creating a custom ROM, that replaced the original.

On his weblog he has documented adding the YM2413 + Components and how to create your own custom Rom to support MSX Music.. The custom Rom can be downloaded here.

Yes, simply great! It would be nice if interesting articles like this were added to the wiki regularly.

So the board of the FS-A1FX already has all the facilities in place to add an MSX-MUSIC, it just needs to be populated with the right components? That’s pretty nice. Makes me think of the CX5MII whose board has similarly got space for the parts to upgrade it to MSX2.

I've been thinking of adding it to my FX as well, but I still have more MSX-Music cartridges than computers that don't have it onboard. It's an ongoing dilemma to which I get remembered every time this post gets a kick. Thanks a lot mr. Grauw Running Naked in a Field of Flowers
