PaRaDream translated to English

There's no complaint if it comes to MSX games; there's a lot of it to enjoy. The MSX system was (and still is) a world wide phenomena, just like the developers that created software for her. And with that, a lot of software was made using native tongue. Leaving out the rest of the world to understand its beauty. Enter MSX Translations. A team dedicated to translate such local-language software to a more commonly shared language. Their latest edition involves the Japanese shooter PaRaDream.

MSX Translations has, in collaboration with MRC user BiFi, translated the MSX turbo R shooter PaRaDream (RAC House, 1992) from Japanese to English. With Halloween coming up, this game makes you relive the exciting adventures you might have experienced when you were little. The game is fully translated, nothing is stopping you from living out your dreams.

Now, strap on your cape and enter the Parallel Dream world.

I tried to patch the game with msx-dos. After the patch the game starts and I get a syntax error in line 180. After I fixed that, I get an error in another listing in line 120. Data is scrambled and can't be fixed. I've tried the versions from msx world games and planetemu.net. All with the same result. Where can I find the patchable version?

There was a link to a version with this issue fixed on here a couple of years ago which I have. I can't find the post but from memory it was by someone called dink, I think.

There is a patch in the package that fixes a bug in some version(s) which makes the game exit to basic. Apply that patch before applying the translation if you have trouble with this issue.

The version I tested turned out to have the files copied on a DOS1 formatted disk which will keep the R800 and DOS2 offline. There are some DOS2 specific calls done which will result in a syntax error if it's not around. Try boot your turbo R without a disk in it, in basic insert the disk and run autoexec.bas. See what happens in your case...

d: specifies the drive on which FIXDISK is to operate. If d: is not
specified, the current drive will be assumed. /S option causes the disk to be

This command is mainly used to update MSX-DOS 1 disks to full MSX-DOS 2
compatibility, but may also be useful for updating other disks of a similar
format or reparing incorrect boot sector.

Although the disk format used by MSX-DOS 1 and MSX-DOS 2 is
standardized, MSX-DOS 1 does not use the information stored on certain parts
of the disk (the boot sector) and so this information is not necessarily
correct on MSX-DOS 1 disks. This can cause problems when MSX-DOS 2 is used
with these disks. Additionally, the MSX-DOS 2 UNDEL command will only work
with disks that were formatted using MSX-DOS 2 (ie. disks that have a 'volume
id' in the boot sector) and so will not work with MSX-DOS 1 disks or disks
formatted on other systems.

The FIXDISK command will update a disk so that it is fully MSX-DOS 2
compatible, and it's use will allow full use of MSX-DOS 2 disk features. If
/S option is specified, the boot program will be updated for MSX-DOS 2 so
that the features of MSX-DOS 2 disk can fully work. When a disk has been
updated in this way, however, it may no longer be fully compatible with the
original system. For example, if /S option is specified against the disk of
the application which uses non-standard boot program, such as some games, the
application will no longer be booted, although it will still be able to start
MSX-DOS 1 or MSX-DOS 2.

To help prevent accidental updates of boot disks from other systems, a
prompt is issued before updating a disk.

Still in Line 180 an Error.

Updates a disk to the full MSX-DOS 2 format with FIXDISK [d:] /S.
Not working, because its says that it is a DOS 2 format

I have a working Paradream game in English by following :

Use the Paradream patch
- 5 files of the unpatched disk back on the patched disk.
  - The following files :
    Autoexec.bas
    Title.p
    Cg.p
    Powselg.p
    Sprite.p
    - I have used the MSX Magazine disc with the Paradreams game.

Allso syntax error in line 180 here
first patch 'PDREAM' works but 'PDREAMEN' breaks it :S
any idea what SHA1 the Original japanese version has ?

Tried on 9 different versions, none works...

The patch is created with the original disk. This version seems to be somewhat different from the ones that can be found on the net.

Hi Pippo,

Do you have the Original version of Para Dream' ?
in that case, you could create a IPS patch from a common
'easy to find' version to patch it to a 'Original version'
so we can apply the MIA patches.

@Pipo: I've applied your patch but it's not an accurate patch. The "C" of the word Credits is partually cut of. This also happens in the game over screen. And during the demo, text stays behind and isn't erased, "this is a dream.. No way." line.
I have made a correction to that. Maybe vamipre can upload it into webmsx.

Readme says the demo disk (Taiken disk) of ParaDream provided with MSX Magazine 1992 Summer is required to apply the patch.

Why not provide the disk if that is just a demo?
But maybe it become a complete game after applying the patch, is that the case?
Version found on internet that can't be patched (syntax error in line 180) is it also a demo or the complete game?
