8bitdo announced a Bluetooth adapter for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive (and the upcoming Analogue Mega SG).
With Joymega this should work on any MSX. My only concern would be the power consumption on the MSX joystick ports.

Does anybody know what the Genesis/Megadrive controller ports power consumption limits are?

Hey!

Not sure about Genesis power, but my MSX can handle the SNES 8Bitdo receiver plus PopolonFR's joysnes adapter. Nevertheless, it doesn't work on my Zemmix. Probably is not a good idea to hook up two of these in the joystick ports, though.

I hope it helps a bit Smile.

This definitively helps!

I also tried the combination joysnes+8bitdo receiver and that works flawlessly on the Turbo R.
Thanks for informing that the combination does not work on all MSX devices.

Check your service manual schematic of your MSX, i believe official 50mA but in all of my MSX computers there are no current limiters other then the main (+5V) fuse on the joystick port. I would recommend to use pin 9 as GND not 8 because it will sink all current through you PSG pin/MSX Engine.

When using pin 8 for GND the chips can sink:
AY38910 - not specified, wild guess 0.35mA Max for 1 pin (Icc typ 45 mA max = 85mA)
YM2149 - not specified, guess 0.15mA Max for 1 pin. (Icc typ = 25mA max = 40mA)
S1985 can sink 0.2mA Max.
S3527 i guess 35mA Max. (Idd).

Im using Joyzz Sega Genesis Wireless by Krikzz coupled with a Joymega.
Almost zero lag, up to 150h autonomy. Much better than bluetooth.

I have one 8bitdo for my Retropie and feels pretty cheap. The Krikzz one is super quality.

Indeed Wlcracks is correct... official is 50mA, but practically this is limited only by the thickness of PCB copper wire coming from PSU.

Or the EMI filter max current. Some have these.

@DRomero
You statement on the Krikzz Joyzz Sega Genesis Wireless almost zero lag is backed up by some solid measurements.
Thanks for informing on the Joyzz controller.

I got my 8Bitdo M30 controller + MegaDrive Retro bluetooth receiver yesterday. Just tried it, works like a charm on my turboR via JoyMega! It also supports other wireless controllers like PS3 / PS4 controllers, so you don’t necessarily need to buy the M30, although I haven’t tried it yet.

It feels very light and is closed by two tiny Allen key screws, too tiny for the smallest key I have, but it seems easy to open without damage once you got the right size. I wonder if there’s some room for a JoyMega modification inside.

Having a wireless controller’s nice, I should find some room under my TV now Smile.

I went for the 8Bitdo M30 2.4g solution and added a Mega Sg to test the solution.
I am impressed by the quality of the wireless solution and the lack of lag. Only thing missing is a set of Joymega adapters.
Does anybody have a hint where to acquire a Joymega adapter that fits in a Turbo R?

As a follow up, I finally acquired a Joymega adapter from MSX Calamar.
The Joymega adapter works perfectly with 8bitdo M30 wireless controller and the retro-bit 6 button Mega Drive cabled controller. The Joymega adapter also fits perfectly in both ports of the Turbo R.
