Woah! the game is hard!!! haha Have you been able to beat it?! I have made it to the first boss a couple of times, but that's my limit so far
I know it is hard. Consider that there are only 5 levels. Before send the game I did one test play and I was able to beat the whole first level without losing a single life (and I'm a bit rusty because to do all the fixes I played using cheats for months). It is hard when you don't know what there will be. But a bit (or a lot) of practice will be useful (LoL)
I received some feedback about a crash after 5/6 consecutive play... probably some stack related issue. Maybe I missed some pop af on rough exit from hooked routines (probably the prologue one). I'll check and hopefully fix it this evening
Congratulations on this game, it's technically very impressive. I need to sit down to play this on a proper machine, on a browser through an RDP session it didn't fare well The one thing I'm missing so far is a proper feedback you died. Now in a flash your ship respawns, but there is no explosion or anything, is that correct? It could be more dramatic if there was an explosion and it waited a bit before respawning, or showing the game over screen. I also noticed when you respawn, and you are still invicible (flickering) you can't pickup powerups either.
Also, when the game starts I can't skip the intro until the Phaza 101 logo has been shown. Is that on purpose? Is it pre-calculating stuff there or something like that?
Great, great job here!
Yep, when flickering collision between spaceship and other objects (included powerups) are disabled. But due to high difficulty level there are a lot of them so missing one won't be a problem.
And yes, when game start intro isn't skippable (due to precalculations) but it runs only once and then the game will return directly to title screen.
About player death: if the spaceship collides with an enemy then the enemy will explode. Player spaceship will respawn instantly as always... never thought to do it on a different way, but if there will be a lot of request I'll change it (the game is for the players )
yeah, the game is quite challenging, but it seems as you play again and again is possible to learn the enemy patterns.
well guys, the stack related bug has been fixed. Just sent updated rom to both msxdev team and Filehunter.com
Soon the link will be updated (also sent a screenshot to msxdev team, I forgot to do it before)
Updated to V1.1: https://www.file-hunter.com/MSXdev/index.php?id=freedomfighter
You might have to refresh your cache.
Very nice work! Quite hard too .
I'm very glad and proud you did use Arkos Tracker 2. I hope you liked working with it and that both music and SFX were integrated without problems.
Thanks Thargan! Yep arkos tracker 2 is a great gift you did to msx community (about it I credited you also in final credits, at the end of the game). You were there to solve doubts and issues, and you've upgraded tha player too, to fix the "initialize ram buffer" problem...
Musicians too have appreciated at2 (they told me to ask you to add a time counter, so they can know how long a pattern or the whole song takes)
