How can I subscribe to the topics I'm participating so that I get some kind of notification (e-mail) when someone replies?

I am sorry, but I do not know if that is possible

I do know when you click on 'your name' (next to Welcome, above on the right) (at least when your logged in ofcourse...) you see an overview of the last posts you participated in. Maybe that will help you.

IIRC there used to be this feature - a user used get email notifications (if they wanted).

IIRC some mod said here that the feature was (with current code, at least) too heavy for the server. Sometimes the feature caused the server to slow down so that it was not responding to other requests properly and/or the feature became unreliable. Don't remember which thread that was mentioned in.

So, they disabled for the time being, as it was doing more harm than it was worth.

Maybe some mod/maintainer can chime in to verify or refute what I've just said Cool

Probably related: msx.org profile contact/message tab

@hamlet stated there: "We are working on reinstalling it in a later update of the site."

@hamlet: would that be a minor or major update?

Thanks. I'm currently using the "click on your name" trick.

@diogoeichert: note that the timestamps in that overview are that of your own posts, so you won't know if someone else posted until you open the topic.

(Note that I asked hamlet the question above for a reason, I've got this idea, and might invest some time into something that might come in handy here.. Smile)

Hi @ren, I think the email notification shouldn't pose a threat to the site performance if it's postponed and then batch processed. I wonder if the original code that was causing an issue was keeping the web server thread waiting for SMTP connections. Question

Still curious, any big updates planned to/for the site, or are you planning on / working towards (simply) patching up? Thanks.

Perhaps I'm getting impatient, but in these past years every time I had a question or suggestion regarding the website, I've hardly seen any response from the team. What's with that? Seems like no one's home at times, or you're being ignored, don't care, don't know perhaps, whatever may be the reason. (Why should I care when the operators of this site don't seem to care?) (See e.g. my comments over here as well: msxorg-url-encoder#comment-381548.)

@hamlet: any reason you're not responding, you must have read/followed this topic? Can you enlighten us in regard to this update you're talking about?

You're not ignored... Ofcourse everybody would want stuff to be working as desired... Just not all the guys with time have the skills to do that and not all the guys with skills have the time to do that...
It's not off the wish list and for now not on top of the priority list either.
I hope with you all that it works again some day, but without it's not like the end of the world Wink
