Hold it. I was already thinking of something like that in the afternoon, and here's my beep:

As long as we provide a means for the consumer to receive a new copy of the software when the previous copy should fail in anyway !

Is this applicable for MSX software? Does Konami give us a new Salamander when we've ruined it (using it for stuff, without a switch)? Does Sunrise give customers a new Manbow 2 when somehow the game doesn't work anymore? Does Sunrise explicitly state that Manbow may only be played on a real MSX? If not, do you have the right to play it inside an emulator? If so, should one be able to backup the game, in order to play it in any emulator?

if no one buys it and everone downloads it how can this Artist keep making music ?

A bit of a bypass of the subject, a moral question for you Tongue

Of a full price CD (20 euro) about 1 euro worth o' rights goes to the composer (who may have to split it with a lyricist, a producer, an arranger, a wing composer etc.), the rest is profit for the musicshop and the publisher. The publisher may argue that they carry all the risks, do all the investments etc. blah. The reality is that publishers are often a pain in the ass while taking the lion's share of the profits, even if the artists funded/produced the whole thing himself. The time that every artists needs to finish his work in an expensive studio is behind us.

If you're on the artist's side so much, how about downloading the whole album, and send a postcard with an euro attached to it to the artist's address? Is that morally acceptable for you? Tongue

That suggests that other systems (C64, Amiga, Atari etc.) went down under at the same time as the MSX, because warez are everywhere.

the same is happening NOW to PC games.Because of the piracy more and more software companies decide NOT to create a PC version. I have experienced this myself. Pretty soon you will have a state-of-art configuration but few games available for it !
As long as companies make a profit they will continue else not !

Really? Can you prove that?
Because PC always has the last games, like Fallout 3 and GTA 4 and even guys who didn't made games for PC are doing them now, like the new metal gear solid.

Guess what: Playstation 1 surpassed Sega Saturn because pirate PS1 games were easy to find than pirate Saturn games.

POW!

Yeah, this.
And the fact almost all saturn games SUCKED HARDCORE LOVELACE STYLE, unless you are a sega fanboy.

PingPong: I'm sorry for assuming you didn't have an original yet.

About your dump, is it possible it was dumped after games were saved to it? That would change the checksum and cause openMSX not to recognize it. There are several ways you can work around that:

  • erase the save games from the ROM image in a hex editor; I don't know by heart which area this is though
  • add the SHA1 sum of your dump to the softwaredb.xml; use the "sha1sum" tool to get the checksum
  • force the "manbow2" mapper type in openMSX; that can be done on the openMSX command line and also through Catapult

Note that openMSX puts the save game area in a separate file, so it won't modify your ROM image and change its SHA1 sum again.

No problem, mth. my interest in those games is purely technical. I'm a poor player. Never reached at least in the middle of the level1 on the original msx machine with cursor keyboard.... Tongue

about forcing the openMSX to the mapper type, sorry but i cannot find how to do with catapult.
Maybe it's better to use the cmdline console. OK. i insert the cartridge with carta command, but i can't find the command used to specify the mapper type...... what command is?

An older version of Catapult had a (confusing) UI for specifying mapper type, but it seems we removed that completely in newer versions.

You can do it from the command line like this:
openmsx -carta manbow2.rom -romtype manbow2

This is such a stupid discussion, especially the people who think making copies is wrong, the're hypocrits!
Why? Because we all have MP3's on our computer (and they are not Rip's from our own CD's!)
We have all played SD-Snatcher, an no we didn't buy them from Ebay!
You know what I mean, if MSX died because of making copies... you misters hypocrit... helped too!!

I have a (self made) rom dump of Manbow2, and an original.
But I wouldn't feel bad If I just had the Rom file, just like I don't feel bad about the mp3 of the Prodigy i just downloaded!

you're so LAME !
If you like the music buy it ! and support the Artist so he/she can make some more music for you to enjoy.
if no one buys it and everone downloads it how can this Artist keep making music ?
it's a simple concept....but then maybe still too complicated for you? Question

when and where did I post I don't buy anything? I buy loads of stuff
But yes.. I download mp3's, roms, iso's, mpegs and whatnot aswell! and so do you HYPOCRITE

There is most certainly a guarantee/warranty for our products in general for one year.
All with same conditions as Ryuzo stated, returning the old copy etc
Manbow2 can be played with the gamereader on a pc , so it isnot explicitly for a real msx and has a protection
Konami would have done so also if there were still alive and within a certain period it damaged.
I give you an example : I bought the smartcards from electric with sweet acorn and chack'n pop VIA Aackosoft I thought
Within a few days chack'n pop was damaged. I got my money back without any problem.

thx , works like a charm, and judging from the indicator the vdp is busy (during the game) 45% or less
Big smile
