Whatever new MSX3 hardware we get, to be successful it must have a cartridge slot and run old cartridges smoothly.

Nishi San announced a 2 month delay on the original schedule. I think we should rather hope for the new MSX (MSX3) hardware for next fall or winter. We are really happy.

Well it looks interesting but for me part of the "msx feeling" is looking at an actual old msx on my desk and the great community still active today (Before i got a msx again i played it on a raspberry pi and had no complaints but the feeling of a real one does it for me.)

Because of that community a lot of hardware is already available to play original msx games on a fairly cheap alternative.
I just can't imagine a solid place for a new msx but i hope when it arrives it does ofcourse Smile

Last words from Nishi K. In June 2022:
"I once thought about making msx2+ or Turbo R into 1 chip SoC to make lowpriced IOT solution. But I decided not because of the computing power we will need for security. A leaset we will need 2 to 4 32 bit CPU for such a apps. This was a decision for years ago.I think I was right."

"We are discussing next gen after MSX 3. This is a picture of MSX 3 engine and nextgen connected for manycore 64bit MSX cluster. Maximum of stackable 16 nextgen engine will make 64 cpus of ARM 64 bit and linux. we will finalize the spec before starting MSX engine 3 production."

"Ofcourse old msx logoed software will run for future MSX, I will perhaps be asking all potential users stop writing z80 and r800 code anymore and write only on high level tools for 64 bit VM code for long term binary compatibility. VM64 will run on X86, ARM32, ARM64, RISC V."

I think, we can hope MSX3 different hardware from Autumn 2022 or winter

Hahaha! My ass!
Keep dreaming Nishi san. You will take Z80 code off my dead hands! Tongue

Yes, he dreams. Even if one day I develop on this new machine, I will not stop writing z80 and r800 code.

Yeah not gonna happen. If it doesn't support 100% MSX-compliant Z80/R800 code it can hardly be called MSX can it? Backwards-compatibility is an important part of it. I personally think both MSX BASIC and Z80 are irremovable holy cows.

Macs can no longer run code from a few years ago but they are still called Mac. That said, I feel like Mr Nishi is using the popularity of MSX for his new project. MSX seems to be just a gateway.

If it's an MSX, it should be compatible with all the hardware that's out there. Will it play Turbo-R games? Yes. MSX-1? Of course. This being said, I for one am very interested to see what else is lurking around the horizon. MSX-3 is a step-up, a completely new generation with amazing new possibilities and backward compatibility. Cool

I think Mac is different as Apple computers have long used the Macintosh name for PCs that uses different and incompatible architectures over the years. For MSX backwards-compatibility was important, at least up to MSX2+ considering Turbo R ditched some of it. That's one thing I myself values highly about MSX.

That said Mac and IBM-PC makers both deserves a boot for ditching legacy features and introducing new things that are harder to use and never seems to work correctly (like the traditional parallel and serial ports in favor of the often poorly working and non-hobbyist-friendly USB, for not mentioning that UEFI crap).

Well Nishi probably needs more developers to make software for his new product, so I guess you could see it like he is simply asking us to start targeting this new hardware.
I do hope there is a place for the MSX3 in our modern world and that it becomes successful, and I also hope that it will connect the modern era with the golden home-computer era, bringing about new interest in it.
