MSX2 mixing OSSC + Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus + OBS

Hi folks,
I wanted to stream from my MSX2 Philips NMS8280 to Twitch or YT (doesnot matter - but the point is - from OBS or other streaming software on Windows).

I have this SCART HDMI video converter which works on most devices but it has one minor I pretty much hate when streaming - any reset/restart of streamed computer causes lost signal (which is logic - for a moment there is no source), then it gives OSD frame with reconnected info which stays like 20 secs.

I have bought OSSC which has been claimed as very good for RGB signal convertion to HDMI. Well... It looks like my setup needs changes or I have found uncompatibility within specific software.

So step by step:

the connection chain:
1) Philips NMS 8280
2) SCART RGB <> SCART RGB lead
3) OSSC av1 SCART input
4) HDMI output HDMI lead
5) Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus HDMI input
6) USB2.0 to PC Windows 10 and
7) HDMI pass thru HDMI output to HDMI monitor

generally - it works, tested yesterday on Twitch.

I can stream, the pass thru works fine. Same for direct connecting OSSC thru HDMI to TV or HDMI monitor.

Then... there is Terra Cresta demo. I know, it's unreleased production, more to show MSX Audio cart skills. But this one causing "lost signal" on Avermedia. After MSX startup and loading first file - it gets black screen and grabber gets nothing visible. So no title screen even. I mean - OSSC outputs something around 480p but this is not working directly in my Avermedia card.

Then - I have tried cheap HDMI splitter I have - no results. Same problem.

Then - I have tried mentioned and hated SCART HDMI converter - I put it after OSSC and before Avermedia. HDMI to HDMI lead, so no lost on signal. It works. When I put this SCART HDMI converter before Avermedia and after OSSC - I have then signal in OBS.

It's more crazy now: I have older Avermedia Game Capture HD II. Old stuff, limited to 720/60 or 1080/30, streaming is not possible, just recorder. But it has two things I keep it, not selling nor thrashing. It can separate audio input and HDMI/component video inputs. So it does well audio injection to HDMI output and from time to time I use it.

So - 8280 -> OSSC -> Game Capture HD II:
1) starting device with already started Terra Cresta it shows game for a second, then it open preferences to confirm and back - blank screen
2) still great pass thru HDMI output to monitor

A bit crazy as... it's only this one production: Terra Cresta. It definately use some tricky video mode that makes this problem.

Any ideas?

What happens to the sync if you do this in BASIC:
VDP(10)=VDP(10)XOR2
This toggles the VDP between PAL and NTSC mode.

I'm on 2x mode, so it gives me after normal boot:

15.58kHz 49.80Hz on OSSC LCD
288p 313p 542053

then

VDP(10)=VDP(10)XOR2

gives me exactly what TERRA CRESTA gives:
15.58kHz 59.49Hz
240p 262p 453731

then repeating the command you mentioned give the screen capture back.

Thanks Manuel, I know what I need to look for - I need to tune settings for NTSC as it has part of parameters different. Pity OSSC cannot have this automated. This also makes logic why I couldn't switch from NTSC to PAL on the HDMI Scart converter.

Hi guys, maybe I have a problem similar to yours, but with a super famicom.
I apologize for posting such a question on an MSX forum, but I only found someone here complaining about a similar problem
I use a super famicom connected via RGB NTSC SCART cable, connected to an OSSC V1.6 with firmware 0.90.
I exit OSSC via HDMI and connect to the AVERMEDIA 2 plus card, which connects to my TV monitor.
I can see the audio video signal very well on the TV and OSSC displays me as a signal:
AV1_RGBS 262-p
15.75kHz 60.08Hz

I press the record button on avermedia 2 plus, avermedia records and I view what I record on the TV.
Too bad the file I get is a black screen with the game audio (Street fighter 2 ) .
The strange thing is that if I use a PAL Super nintendo, I can record without any problems, using the same settings and connections.
So I don't understand what bothers me having to record an HDMI signal, that the TV recognizes it as a 480P.

Thanks and sorry for my english translated by goolge .

The Super Famicom’s (NTSC) RGB timings are quite off-spec, causing more incompatibility problems than other systems. Since the OSSC does not change the timings, some monitors and TVs will protest. Since the timing issue originates with the Super Famicom, changing OSSC settings probably won’t help, but maybe take a look here.

It is possible to do a hardware modification to the SNES, see here, quote:

VideoGamePerfection.com wrote:

Does your OSSC work perfectly with your television, except when you try to use your RGB modded NES or SNES? Due to a quirk with the NES/SNES hardware design, NES and SNES consoles generate a ‘jittery’ sync signal in 240p mode. This makes their signals challenging for digitizers which use it in clock generation, and especially for devices like OSSC, where the output clock is derived directly from the sync signal. Not every HDTV is affected by this quirk, but if your other consoles are working fine while your NES or SNES has issues, chances are it’s the jitter bug.

By installing this upgrade, your NES/SNES consoles sync signal will be corrected, meaning it will be compatible when used with the OSSC and any HDTV (assuming your HDTV is compatible with the OSSC in the first place, of course).

Note – The de-jitter mod is not applicable to PAL consoles (unless you have installed a SuperCIC board) and would be dormant if installed in a stock PAL console.

I suggest to check the VideoGamePerfection.com forums, you will find more Super Famicom users there. There is a thread about capture card compatibility.
