- Hey you!
- Who, me?
- Do you need module cases for an MSX project of yours?
- Well, now that you asked, actually...
- Ran out of Konami cases, huh?
- Geez, those carts go for 500 euros on eBay...
- Your favourite cartridge provider a bit slow, huh?
- Haven't heard anything in half a year Sad
- Got a 3D printer at hand, do you?
- As a matter of fact, there's one at work. What about it?

The less known industrial design section of Lieves!Tuore presents: a 3D printable MSX module case. I'll link the final STL files after a bit of fixing, but here's a couple of teasers at least:

Fantastic! Thank you in advance! Big smile

Just a small suggestion: does it need those huge reinforcements on the back side? Won't they hinder the use of components on both sides of the board?

A couple of notes:

  • I've only tested the model on one industrial 3D printer which used ABS
  • 30/2 mm standard wood screws work if you snip about 2 mm from the tip
  • No customer support – if it doesn't work well for you, go ahead and modify the STL files Wink
  • The case was designed with a proto PCB and SD card reader in mind
  • The walls on the bottom are meant to be carved/remodeled so that you can fit about any PCB

What seems like "huge" is actually just 1.6 mm thick. The idea is that you adjust the bottom to suit the PCB and then the top will just keep it in place.

So it did work out! Absolutely great news!

Out of curiosity, how long did it take to print that?
White is not my favorite color, but I would not mind if you could print few to me too when you have time. If you are not too busy at home, next week I can buy you a beer or few. ;-)

I couldn't choose the color, so that's what I got Smile The printing took nearly 5 hours for the two parts combined.

I can't start "mass producing" these, since I don't have a regular access to an affordable printer, but I wouldn't mind at all if someone else does. Use as you see fit, I've had my fun already Smile

Did you tried Shapeways ?
The strong and flexiable material can be wel suited for those carts ;)
