Here a new topic for the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD catridge
post questions/remarks and other stuff here...

ill start
im a big fan of the M Filemanager which works like a charm on my CF and Sharksym interface
But when i use it on the Megaflashrom i can not "browse" to a floppy drive, the computer hangs then
i am using it on my TurboR (havent tried on another computer yet)
Does anyone have the same issue??

I have several issues with browsing partitions in a sdcard (with mm or from the shell)

- if I create big partitions (1Gb), when switching in the shell to the unit they are mapped to it takes so long to show
the amount of free disk space that it seems as if the computer was blocked. Small partitions (100Mb) work fine.
- I see some garbage when browsing the partitions with mm (ghost files) but I am not sure is not a problem of how
I copy the files. I partition the sdcard in the msx using call fdisk then copy the files using a mac.

that aside, it works great so far.

I wonder why it takes so long to calculate the free disk space. (I know it's a Nextor thing and not a MegaFlashROM thing)
If I do a DIR on my 2Gb SD card in my OCM card reader it's fast, but if I do a DIR on a 2GB partition on a 'nextor' card, it takes for ever.

Only downside on that is that you can't brag with "look, I got almost 4GB of free diskspace" because it'll always be 32MB... But it's better that way...

Feature requests

  • I'd like an easier way to upload a romdisk. A directory on a sd cart or maybe a physical disk drive. If a DSK file is required, it could be made on the fly.
  • mapdrv c: 1-0 3 1-3 crashes if there's no sd cart in slot 2. An error handler would be nice because I have this command in my autoexec.bat. (detecting all sd carts/partitions automatically would be really welcome, since this way the cartridge must be in slot 1)
  • I have a first generation flashscc512K in slot 2 which works with OPF.COM. This cartridge is not found anymore, so if I want to flash that one I have to insert my CF interface.

It's not so strange it takes so long to calculate the free disk space with this size partitions on a real MSX.
RALLOC B: ON is a good work-around.

I have some problems with some diskimages (.DSK) in the Mega Flash ROM SCC+ SD device.
Games like 'Dahku' en 'Shrines of Enigma' they start, but when some 'loading' parts come they 'hang'.
I will check for sure tomorrow, but I thought I didn't have problems before running these diskimages on my real MSX.
For now I tested them in OpenMSX (with same MSX configuration) and they work fine. No problems.
Anyone ideas?

My point is, that even I use it on Emulated hardware (OCM) the free disk space handeling is slow with Nextor, but quick without Nextor. So even that OCM speeds things up, I notice that Nextor somehow slows things down.
On the other side I would love to see a Nextor Driver for the OCM and/or the FlashRom SCC+ implementation to replace the ESE SCC+ , because I love the build in support for FAT16 and FDISK.

I ran into some strange things as well. Dragon Slayer 6 doesn't have sound... I'll test some more DSKs in the next weeks...

Probably something I'm really overlooking, but I can't find it out. I want to keep the SD interface inserted and simply boot from diskette. HOW?! Pressing ESC disables the ROM but still boots from the SD interface.

With my Sunrise CF Interface I simply press GRAPH while booting and the complete interface is ignored and the inserted diskette is booted.

Of course, this MUST be possible with the SD interface as well. But how, I don't know....

Furthermore, a lot of programs don't work well, for various reasons. I guess DISKVIEW doesn't work with FAT16 partitions. But I'm also a regular BASKOM user (execute BASIC commands from the DOS prompt). Doesn't work.

And how do I change the ESC key from preventing the ROM to boot to another key? I know this should work with the 'opfxsd /T[xx]' command (or is it opfxsd /Txx), but no success here. The key isn't changed at all. Whatever key I select. And I need another key than the ESC key, coz pressing it boots the internal MUSIC MODULE program here :/

It works fine here. What are you exactly typing?

OPFXSD MGEAR2.ROM /t84 -> The game is disabled when pressing INS
OPFXSD MGEAR2.ROM /t84 /n -> The game boots when pressing INS
