Canon V-30F MSX2
Another mystery resolved, no 128 kb RAM but only 64 Kb RAM, as in V-25 and V-30.
So, the progression of these 3 machines is very logical :
V-25 without disk drive
V-30 one disk drive
V-30F two disk drives
I just noticed it has an eject button for the cartridge slot. I don't think I've ever seen such a button before. Are there any other MSX machines that have such a button?
I guess FS-5000/5500 and CF-3000/3300
It's a bargain, but you'll have to reverse engineer the keyboard
mars: do you have evidence of the V-30 specs?
Also, the Canon V-25 only has 64kB VRAM, while the V-30F at least has 128kB VRAM.
You can find a picture of the V-30 (without F) on this ASCII page :
http://weekly.ascii.jp/elem/000/000/164/164109/
It's the machine on the right and when you enlarge the picture, you'll see there is only one drive (and the place to install a second drive) :
キヤノン『V30』(写真右、'86/03)
キヤノンのフラッグシップMSX2。大人の女性を意識した白基調の上品なデザインでした。別売の本格ワープロソフト『V-WORD』(3万4800円)との組み合わせで、「SOHO」需要にまで応えようと試みました。13万8000円。
Google translation :
Canon "V30" (photo right, '86 / 03)
Canon's flagship MSX2. It was elegant design of white keynote-conscious adult women. In combination with the full-scale word-processing software (sold separately) "V-WORD" (¥ 34,800), it was attempted to live up to the "SOHO" demand. ¥ 138,000.
Yes, but we cannot see the amount of RAM or VRAM... Also, it's not clear from the image that it isn't a V-30F after all (you can't read the type number)... The pic on GenMSX for the V-30 has 2 drives, but it may also be a V-30F picture. Not very clear...
I don't see why RAM and VRAM should not be the same for the 2 variants of V-30.
Hmm, I found an image of a V-30F advertisement, where only one drive is visible in it... See
Maybe they've used the picture of a V-30 by error on this advertisement ...
Or other guessing .... maybe there's only the V-30F with one drive by default, but also the place to install later a second drive (just like for the Sony HB-G900 computer). The price on the ad is the same as on the ASCII website, that's why I think about that ...
Beautiful.
What is the the plastic cover on the picture of the back "protecting" ?
