Dead Sunrise IDE/RS232?

Hi all,

It seems I somehow was able to kill my Sunrise IDE/RS232 interface. When I plug it in my Turbo R GT or FS-A1WX the computer only gives a black screen. Any idea what the reason for this may be? I am afraid I might have instered the cartridge wrongly somehow, could that be the reason it's dead now?

If so, is there anyway to fix the cartridge as Sunrise is no more?

hi if you have more than sunrise I could provide me with a (sunrise FUNRICE clone) with IDE port, and make you a price in exchange for the RS232 sunrice HS (that is to see what he did over there )

In general it is the GAL chip that fails in Sunrise interfaces. These chips are programmable. You must find the programs.

What programs do you mean? HOw can I reprogram that chip. The MSX doesn't boot anymore so I can't program through the MSX.

You could try a slot expander where you can switch of the subslot. Boot your MSX and after boot switch the subslot on and then try to flash it again and type in the slot manually. Maybe this helps.

I doubt if you can update that gal chip. It only contains i/o addressing logic.

I think GAL chips are programmable only one time therefore you need to change it.
I remember that programs were available a certain time.

no Gdx. GAL are programmable multiple times...
you must use an eprom programmer on a PC.

You can program/reprogram the GALs with a USB programmer but not all programmers can handle GALs chips. The G540 is a good choice. It supports many devices, including GAL chips.

As for the files to program the chips, I think they were available at some brazilian MSX site. Although you need to see if they are actually compatible with your interface.

To reprogram the chips you would need to desolder them anyways, so in my opinion is best you get two new GALs chips, just to be on the safe side.
