It died

Today I plugged my 8bits4even cartridge expander and MSX blaster in my system and they died. I could even smell it. Using the power supply that came with it. The MSX (NMS 8245) won't boot with it connected. The MSX blaster, now reports sample memory between 0 and 256 KB, numbers really change between resets, If It loads anything using samples, I hear garbage. My simple conclusion: memory (and what else) fried.

So I am looking for a shop that sells a cartridge expander and an OPL4 with 2MB sample memory. Anyone got a webshop, that still has them?

you can get slotexpander at Supersoniqs' but i wonder if someone still produces OPL4 due to very shortage of the chips. There was some topic in Trading and Collecting (which i believe this post should belong to as well) where new OPL4's were mentioned, you could look around for it

I believe Cristiano does produce OPL4. There is a thread on the sale section.

Some of mine msxblaster the tantalums (yellow capacitors) needed to explode just because they felt like it. I recapped it with nice brand. Works again. Maybe you could check them also.

The slot expander also doesn't work, so I suppose its not just capacitors inside the msxblaster.

Even though the MSX Blaster may not be working anymore, it's probably possible to salvage its OPL4 and use it on a new cartridge.

tantalum's have the tendency to short out the voltage supply.

Yes, especially old Tantalum caps in 12v circuits. When you see them in vintage computers - replace all of them!
