By default the diskrom of the Sony HB-F700P is kinda slow, but this can be changed. How do I know if one has a faster diskrom? Is there a tool for this?

If it's slow you have the wrong one... And it's quite obvious when the ROM is the original because nothing is slower than that...
When you want to replace it, be sure to choose the right ROM to remove because Sony didn't always print the right info on the mainboard of their 700s. You might end up with two diskROMs and no BasicROM Big smile

I was going to say the same. The first time I used my hb-f700 without the knowledge of its disk being slow, I noticed the disk was really slow.

I thought about the rom replacement, but is that the same rom to replace for msx-dos2 rom upgrade as well? Because I might as well have both upgrades.

Hmm, maybe Bas K. could do a DIY guide at his site with pictures...

There's a Basic ROM and a disk ROM... Some mainboards have them described right and some have them described wrong.
A friend of mine once ran into this when he wanted to change his disk ROM. He replaced the ROM where it said disk ROM, but instead of having a fast disk ROM, he had a fast and an original disk ROM and no Basic ROM. At the end of the day he had to pop both ROMs out, waste the slow disk ROM, put back the Basic ROM and put the fast disk ROM on the right place Wink

If you run DOSSCAN.COM (or something similar), you can get about 16/17 kB/s if it's fast.

15 kB instead of 12 kB by default... nice to know, but ofcourse I use mass-storage devices...

The hb700 diskROM got better multitasking! Like you can continue typing while something is loading.
Didnt the hb700 come with a GUI. On a normal diskROM, the mouse hangs while loading.

I must add that I never saw the GUI, this is theory from test results.
a test with phydio. A long transfer did 5.66 times slower.
But then ten interrupts per second get thru. That one is a record, normal ROMs block for the whole duration of a long transfer.
