Hello,

I am looking for info on chip V7030.

This chip is the one used in Philips 8280 to digitize analog colours to VDP colour bus format.
I did not find datasheet but I found pinout inna Chinese web. Here it is.

V7030 The pin main features are as follows:

The main function of Pin	Pin main function
1 VCC2 				15 BIT4: Bit 4
2 DHCLK IN: input 		16 BIT3: Bit 3
3 MODE CONT: controlled 	17 BIT2: Bit 2
4 DLCLK IN: Input 		18 BIT1: bit 1
5 SHIFT CONT: transfer control 	19 GND1: to 1
6 VIDEO IN1: video input 	20 C0
7 VIDEO IN2: video input 	21 C1
8 VIDEO IN3: video input 	22 C2
9 VCC3: power 3 		23 C3
10 VREF2: reference voltage 2 	24 VCC1
11 VREF1: reference 1 		25 C4
12 GND3: to 3 			26 C5
13 CLP.P IN: clamp pulse input 	27 C6
14 GND2: ground 2 		28 C7

As per the info I collected, I made an idea on how the 2 modes work:
For one mode (pin 3 to GND), 'C' pins are used to deliver color bits in the SCREEN 8 way: GGGRRRBB
For the other mode, 4 bits are used for every color component (GGGG RRRR BBBB), so pins C and BIT are used (If I am not wrong).

I had a look to the docs to digitize in Black and white, and this is all I could find out.
If I am not wrong, does this mean that this chip can be used to digitize to 12 bits?
Can an 8280 be modded to digitize to 12 bits?

I will thank if anybody can supply deeper information on this chip or maybe datasheet

regards

Is there a name on the chip ?
If you know what manufacturer made the chip, sometimes for the older models you can simple contact them and ask for a datasheet (if they still have them on record)

when digitizing, the display DMA is in reverse gear, writing the image to vram.
8 bits for screen 8, no more bandwidth available.

one day I did random dithering in software, the input has more bits, every pixel add a random value and then round it.
maybe adding the right noise in the analog signal makes nice dithered digitizing Smile
The V7030 would run in normal 8bit mode.

Hi hit9918 Smile

1) If digitizing = analogique image =》numericale image =》VRAM
It's slow..
2) If digitizing = analogique image =》numericale image
It's work in réal time on the 9958 Smile

This chip is made by Sony and ASCII.

Thank you Igal.
I already saw that page.
That page made me think of the 4-bit x 3 mode of this chip.
I think that, when changing to "monocrome" mode, the chip is set to deliver 4bit+4bit+4bit but, as only 8 bits are attached to VDP bus, MSX can only read 4bit+4bit. There is no suitable mode to display this on the VDP. ;(
One solution could be add a multiplexer (74157) to read 4bit more from chip and a software to decode the colours. Again, there is no suitable mode to display 4bit+4bit+4bit color info ;( .

Do you have a movie of how it performs in the mode "1)"?

@Sd_snatcher: sorry for the time spent answering, I had not seen a question asked me.

Here a vidéo in screen 5 (I think so) => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgFHWRJ4a1Q
Here a vidéo in screen 12 => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKnCYt6SBE0

@mohai,

V7030 is the video ASCII/SONY analog/digital flash converter with the DC restoration (clamping). It is almost mandatory in EVERY MSX2 digitizer including even non-Japanese models (Daewoo CPC400s or Telematica).

What kind of info would you like to get?

Does the V7030 produce the same signal for black and for transparency?
A question that is of interest to practice compositing in SCREEN8 and for good reason, the SCREEN8 does not know the transparency!

Thx Smile
