Is the spmanbow2 type of mapper supported on openmsx 0.7? There is something to do to make it work with a dump of the original cart?

No, it's not, but i think if one owns the physical a dump could be done for private use.

yes and that's how the downfall of MSX all began...

if you want people to create and release new games and keep doing so then respect their work.

DONT PIRATE THEIR SOFTWARE NOT EVEN FOR PERSONAL USE (whatever that might mean???!)

unless the author gives you EXPLICIT permission to do so !

The Manbow2 mapper has been supported since openMSX 0.7.0. If you dump your original cart on a real MSX or using a Game Reader it will run. Today it was announced that there will be a new batch of Manbow2 carts produced, so please use that opportunity to get an original from Sunrise. It includes an SCC and it can save to flash, so it's not only a nice game but also some cool hardware for a low price.

That suggests that other systems (C64, Amiga, Atari etc.) went down under at the same time as the MSX, because warez are everywhere.

Whether or not people copy games, in the past years people have created games, and I expect they will continue to do so in the next years. They create games out of some sorta 'sport': to join challenges, to keep them self in shape or simply because they like it.

Afaik, the law states that one may make a private backup of the original one owns, without the need to ask the original author for permission.

the same is happening NOW to PC games.Because of the piracy more and more software companies decide NOT to create a PC version. I have experienced this myself. Pretty soon you will have a state-of-art configuration but few games available for it !
As long as companies make a profit they will continue else not !

So you would not mind it at all if someone were to rip your music/gfx from your games use it for their personal use(ahum)? Just let me know..I could always use a good tune ! Tongue

The law you're referring to is a very 'vague' one. Every lawyer will confirm this. It has lot's of side-notes and exceptions. And these keep changing on a regurlar basis. And it differs from country to country.
It's my opinion that we as a community should not encourage this behavior because it will eventually lead to no good.

It just means they will have to find a more reliable business model, for instance a service/subscription-based model.

The personal use you seem to be referring to is a commercial use..
And I'm sure wolf_ wouldn't mind if I grabbed his music or graphics from his games and put it on a CD to listen to it myself (PERSONAL use). As a true artist would also feel honoured if more people enjoyed his creation.

The Dutch version of the homecopy law isn't really that vague. After many revisions it keeps being confirmed that it allows consumers to make a copy for personal use (so when they for instance already have an original themselves) whether or not that copy originates from an illegal source.

Right, I almost forgot there are absolutely no warez in the world of consoles!

Respecting media from a product (e.g. no ripping it out) has little to do with commercial interests. It's just not a thing to do, let's call it a gentlemen's agreement. But it had little to do with the original point. What you were stating is that people stop making games when these games are copied. Most games in our scene (by far) are freeware games, like challenge entries, those developers won't stop developing whatsoever.

(ps. you can always ask your musical genius when you need a tune Tongue)

(Wiki/Dutch) Dutch copyright law - 45k

Vague or not, the law is there. Why don't you show me those exceptions?

Years ago I made a backup of Ease. And that was good, as I once dragged the [A] icon into the trashbin, just to see what would happen.. :P

I'm not saying that we should dump the game in order to spread it over the net, I'm merely saying that (at least in NL) people have the right to make a backup of software they bought, that's all.

There is nothing wrong with dumping the cartridge to a ROM file, so you can play it on your PC/DC/Wii/whatever. As long as you don't start spreading the file. And as far as I know, no-one has spreaded the .ROM file, and let's just hope it will stay that way.
