In my original disks collection I found a dutch translation of ys 2. After some googling I discovered it was a release of pigeonsoft, later to be known as sargon. One of the msx.org topics mentions this and also the release of two other games i'm interested in but can't find on the net. Does anyone have a diskimage of
ancien ys 1 dutch and 'the vampire and the she vampire' ?

I also have a dutch translation of great strategy (daisenryaku) by micro cabin. Does anybody know who did this translation ?

Next to ys 1, ys2 and great strategy, does anybody know if there are more dutch translations of games ?

I wanted to yell: ZOO... but there is only a Dutch version of this game I believe.

Do official translations count?
If that is the case I can think of two more:

L'Affaire

Kinderen van de Wind

L'Héritage (Infogrames) also had a Dutch/NL release (De Erfenis), but the game itself is in English right? (And in that regard not different from the English/UK(?) release?)

Fan translations? I think only the 3 TheKid mentions. In general the same Dutch text is a bit longer than its English counterpart. And most Dutch people understand English erfectly fine so I understand that it's not been done more often.

Regarding ZOO: yeah that game needs an English translation Smile

If someone can 'crack' the text routine, then I'm willing to translate.

Should be a fairly easy hack since the texts are probably shorter than the dutch ones.

Thanx guys, it figures what randam mentions, most dutch people know their english so there was indeed no need for dutch translations.

I optimistically started translating a disk image of ZOO to English - indeed in the easiest possible way: just overwriting the Dutch strings with English which is almost always possible albeit by bending grammar or spelling slightly here and there.

I didn't get far though; some strings are combined by means of coded references to other strings, in a word order that simply won't work for English. So I'll have to mess around with moving control characters as well, and hope this continues to work. It probably won't.

(Translating Konamis in the early 90's was way easier: very small strings that I looked up by peeking in memory, poking Dutch strings back and bsaving. You should have seen my mum's face when I showed her I had a Dutch version of Athletic Land that didn't show " CHILD PARK " but "DE SPEELTUIN" on the first level.)

@Hrothgar: Haha, "DE SPEELTUIN".. good one. I did the same ones with konami's boxing. I gave the opponents the names of my nephews so I could kick their digital asses Smile Unfortunately I wasn't that good at boxing so I saw their names as winners a lot Smile

I have diskimages of Ys 1 Dutch and The Vampires and She Vampires (and other Pigeonsoft products of course). Behind the scenes two good friends of mine read this and wrote to me, in shock and awe, "Someone wants to play The Vampires and She Vampires!!!!". Now ehrm, do you... really? Smile

The Dutch Ys translations were made purely for fun using a hex editor. Obviously they're nothing more than translations of the Oasis English translations. I made them when I was about 14 years old... The same goes for TVASV and other Pigeonsoft software.

I can send you the disk images. Do you want to receive them on the e-mail address you registered with on msx.org?
