I have Ultima II and III which I believe are undumped. (If I'm mistaken then please let me know)

What's the best software to dump floppy disk software in the case of having copy-protection?

I have older computers that I can use, so if the software is old then that's not a problem.

Nevermind, I guess I was wrong about them being undumped.

I'd still be interested in the software if it's something that I could use to fully test disks.

On MSX you can USE FDSAVE, COPY360/COPY720 or DSKPRO (which can also handle copy protection in DMK images). On Windows there is MSX Floppy Disk Manager, on Linux and MacOS you’re stuck with dd.

If you have the disk version of Ultima III I'd be VERY interested. As far as I know, only the .ROM version has been dumped. The disk version is way bigger and more like the PC version. If you could dump that, please feel free to e-mail a copy of those dumps to M S X @ F I L E - H U N T E R . C O M

Hello. The Best software to create DMK imagens from protected disks is DMK Creator.
It copies all types of protections.
Then you can use this dmk image in OPENMSX.

Are any of these diskette imaging software able to make a functioning DMK image of Laydock or Laydock 2 that is playable in openmsx? Even with the original diskettes it seems the copy protection mechanism is not compatible with every model of MSX2/2+, falsely claiming it's a copy even when I use the original diskette. So far my attempts to make DMK images got the same result in emulators, it's failing the copy protection routines

Also, is there any way to load DMK images on actual MSX hardware without a physical floppy disk drive?

And is creation of usable DMK files possible for these games using a tool running on an original MSX 2/2+ machine? The games seem to start fine from the original disks on HB-F1XV and if possible I'd like to create images using that machine too

Hi bsittler,

Use DMK Creator to do that. The image will work in OpenMSX.
PS: You can not use Panasonic computers with DMK Creator because their floppy disk controllers don´t have one important command to copy a protected disk. Sanyo computers use the same FDC and can´t be used either.
Use Sony or Philips computers with disk drivers for example.
