[WTB] MSX-Music / SCC cartridges

Hi! I'm hoping to get set up for some music-making on MSX. Coming from an FM synth background - mainly Mega Drive - I'd love to get my hands on an FM-PAC cart or modern equivalent. Old or new, as long as it has an OPLL!

I'd also be interested in either an SCC/SCC+ cartridge or a game that features said chipset. I am a Nemesis/Salamander fan, but seeing current prices I know better than to be picky.

If you live in Spain, get Flashjacks. You can also order GR8NET. Otherwise, Carnivore2 has both SCC and FMPAC, so this is what I recommend.

Based in Australia, so a fair ways from Spain unfortunately! I already have a MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD, so while the GR8NET and Carnivore are tempting I'd be happy with something simpler/cheaper. Will keep it in mind as an option, though!

Advantage of GR8NET is that it has also MSX Audio support and a lot of other features like playing MP3 files and networking capabilities. Challenge is that because of the many features it needs some knowledge and time to configure but it offers a lot.

In case you’re looking for a real YM2413 OPLL chip rather than an FPGA emulation, MSX-MUSIC clone cartridges are very common (and also cheap). They go by names like FM PAK, FM PAQ Lite, FM Sound Stereo, etc. I looked around a bit but I couldn’t find any MSX-MUSIC clones in stock on 8bits4ever, Repro Factory, TecnoBytes or on eBay shops. Seems like nobody’s selling them at the moment, but you could inquire if they’re interested in making a new batch.

I have an F1 Spirit with SCC, I don’t have an FM PAC or clone at the moment. I think repro factory is your best bet. If you want (and they are able to provide one) you could have it shipped to me (I am in the Netherlands) and I can combine the two in a single package to Australia.

@Grauw: would definitely prefer a cartridge with an actual FM chip as opposed to an FPGA solution, yeah. I was looking at alternatives like the FM-PAQ but yeah, as you've confirmed it's a bit of a dry spell at the moment. I've actually got an Audiowave order from TecnoBytes waiting to be shipped, but unfortunately shipping costs are holding that up for the foreseeable future, so that's a no-go as well. I'll try reaching out and seeing if any of them will be doing more batches in the future. Thanks for looking!

@sdsnatcher73: that would be wonderful, thank you! I actually got my Wavy35 from a seller in the Netherlands and it worked out quite fast and affordable. I'll have to look into it.

To play the S.C.C+ sound you have this which is a clone of the original cartridge with more Ram. That we can have here ;) :

UPDATE: Looks like I'm covered on the SCC front - a buddy has dug up a modded Salamander cartridge for me, so that's on the way.

@Popolon_fr: Appreciate the info, looks great! All these new carts look amazing tbh, so I wouldn't rule out picking some up in the future after I've found my feet a bit with the platform.

UPDATE 2: I got in touch with ReproFactory and apparently a new batch of FM-PAQs will be available in the new few weeks! Ask and ye shall receive, I guess. B-)
