FM is a MSX standard. SCC is a proprietary Konami add-on.
That, too. Which makes FM a more logical choice. Although SCC serves better for 'imitating' the SID.
Nah.. imitation.... a remake is to prove you can do better on the new platform. Lets create some kickass FM-tunes that will blow away the SID!
Does the trilo tracker (fm hack) also give you ability to use PSG channels?
@ syn: Nice point.

Yes, two, with exactly the same functionalities of the SCC version. The third one'd be used for sound effects anyway.
It’s the musician’s choice, JohnHassink!
I like both SCC and FM, but it seems FM is not getting enough attention lately .
Did you also consider a PSG-only soundtrack, btw?
Did you also consider a PSG-only soundtrack, btw?
Do you mean: get music when you only have PSG at your disposal? Then, yeah, ofcourse.
I meant really just PSG only .
Btw, count me in for a copy, too!
p.s. Why hasn’t anyone made a cheap FPGA / CPLD version of the SCC + konami mapper chip yet?
Would also love to get on this! I actually played a PC port of this as a kid I miss it!
@Opethian Please send me a MP or Email, I cannot contact you via your profil's page

Yet SCC is a logical continued development after the PSG, much more resembling the original chip's sound. FM has hardly anything to do with MSX inherently, save for some companies happening to opportunistically grab an existing chip and putting it in their 2+ machines (which would make it a queer choice for MSX1 games indeed).
because I am the musician that's supposed to make all that stuff and I happen to like to work with FM more than I do with SCC.
*teehee*
Indeed you are :-)
May I stick a feather up your arse in commenting that your SCC-based MegaMan soundtrack on Youtube sounds awesome and is the best an 8 bit machine can get? While the FM version may have a fine composition as well, but the sound quality is just as dull and lackluster as any FM tune.
I understand why SCC may not be the ideal choice for this game, but I hope to see more SCC-based work some day.
