With SCC at a certain point I was wondering about to have in game pcm audio on the ISR (like in Vector Wars).
I was thinking to a nice female voice telling you "land now" or "dreadnought approaching", and so on...

It would be cool, but 16 Kbytes allows only about 2 seconds of sampled audio, and it is better to use them for other purposes.

I wanted to mention virtual channel AY.
artist makes full music, not "leave a channel free for game fx".
volume priority sheduler is best.

By the way game crashes on hb 75 when floppy is in slot 1. the setup that happens with openmsx extensions.

Just unplug the floppy ;-)
Anyway it should work if you plug the Uridium cartridge in slot 1 and the disk drive in slot 2

Anyway which loader do you use?

Try Odo, it could work. Or you were using a flash memory?

I played on openmsx. I did get it to run. after removing disk drive extension.
because openmsx puts the extension in slot 1, things will always crash.

As of openMSX 0.10.1, you can choose which slot it gets in, but not with Catapult. So if you want, you can run it like you would on real MSX.

FM is a MSX standard. SCC is a proprietary Konami add-on.

Yet SCC is a logical continued development after the PSG, much more resembling the original chip's sound.

Only in your mind. The SCC has no technical resemblance to PSG at all. Even in the audio department the differences are big.

Quote:

FM has hardly anything to do with MSX inherently, save for some companies happening to opportunistically grab an existing chip and putting it in their 2+ machines (which would make it a queer choice for MSX1 games indeed).

Again I have to burst your bubble. FM has been a part of the MSX standard long before SCC even existed. There is nothing opportunistic about it, the OPL family of FM chips is deeply connected with MSX, via the MSX-AUDIO Y8950 chip which brought the MSX logo to many non-MSX devices.

All released MSX Standard FM extensions are compatible with MSX1, so your statement about it being queer is quite queer.

But I must admit I wonder why the OPL family was chosen, because for example the YM2203 is AY-3-8910 compatible while adding FM channels to it. Then again, that chip was probably avoided due to its association with NEC's PC88 computers.
