Hello,
Highway Fighter for MSX 2 and 2+ is finished exept for a copule of songs and some polishing.
The game will be available on digital format on April the 2nd (in 1 week from today).
The Cartridge format will be ready 3 weeks aprox once we know how many cartridges are needed.
This is why, as usual, a pre-purchase at a lower price (to thank you for supporting the game release in advance) is available from today and for the next 2 weeks only.

This game is a Road Fighter clone with some new features.
For example, you can select 2 different cars with different features which changes the gameplay quite a lot (the game is much harder with the red car for beginners, but pros will enjoy it better).
The yellow car has less acceleration and brakes are not so effective (yes there are brakes, Road fighter has no brakes) but it has a bigger fuel tank and it takes less damage when it crashes.
The red car accelerates much faster and the brakes are very powerful thus making it much more controllable, but the fuel will run out faster and the car will get more damage on on crashes, so not many mistakes are allowed.

You will battle other rivals on 1 vs 1 fights to the death. Throw them out of the road before they do the same to you.

The game supports msx2+ and turbo R SCREEN 10 mode (which is capable to show near 11000 simultanewous colors at the same time).
The game will run with screen 5 (16 colors) on msx2.

The game supports fm pac or music module "only" on z80 processors due to the high cpu consumption of the opl4 driver and the fact that the game must run fast smooth at 60 FPS on a graphic mode.
Panasonic 2+ and turbo R users will be able to use fm pac and music module at the same time (where available) or opl4/moonsound for music and sampled sound effects.

Supported hardware:

Hi Spec:
-Panasonic MSX 2+ or turbo R with turbo enabled
-Screen 10 (Aprox 11000 simultaneous colors on screen)
-Opl4/Moonsound compatible sound card (128k of ram requiered)
OR
-Fm pac AND Music Module (at the same time) (64k of ram requiered)

Medium Spec:
-NON Panasonic msx2+ without turbo cpu (Sony, Sanyo)
-Screen 10 (Aprox 11000 simultaneous colors on screen)
-64k of RAM
-FM Pac OR music module

Low Spec:
-MSX2
-Screen 5 (16 colors)
-64k of RAM
-FM Pac OR Music Module

You can watch a video comparing the game on high spec and low spec (second half of the video):

https://youtu.be/2-qPxFfbdCc

You can download a short playable demo with the first 4 very easy stages (the full game has 24 stages with added replayability due to the 2 cars):

http://www.filedropper.com/hf-demo

Controls:
Left and Right cursors or joystick/pad to steer the car
Space to accelerate
"M" or "N" to use the brakes

To recover the control of your car when you are skidding, move left and right quickly (just like road fighter).
On the 1 vs 1 combats, throw your opponent out of the road in order to win.

You can order your pre-purchase by contacting me at:
kennethalbero@hotmail.com

The pre-purchase prices are:
Digital version: 9 euro
Cartridge version: 39 euro

The final prices (after pre-purchase) are:

Rest of the world: 12,80

With the purchase of more games in the same package, the shipping costs do not increase so you can take a look at our current games here:

The number is 12499 colors, but what ever... I must say that I always love your graphics... They are simply great looking!

Fully agree there.... Never seen such a game with such graphics on MSX before. Do you want to tell us a bit about techniques used?

Looks nice. I somehow like the look of the low spec better then that of the high spec, bit that's just me... One question though: Why not use the up and down to accelerate and brake? Seems more logical to me than space and m/n keys...

Hi, as usual I am happy to share any techniques anyone wishes to know, no secrets. I always explain everything I am asked for on my emails. But there are a lot of things to explain about this game. It is completelly different from all my previous games. I had to learn a lot of things from scratch for this one.
So, what would you like to know exactly? how to create the graphics on screen 10? how to move them at this speed? how to avoid the color clash on screen 10?

That is totally understandable, I received similar feedback from other people. We 8 bit fans love the 8 bit look for it's charm.

Indeed, up and down seems the logical choice... for keyboard...
I originally used those controls (up and down) because I always play with cursors, but I had to have in mind all the users who use joystick and pad.
I tried to play with pad (the sega mega drive pad) and the pad's sensibility and fidelity was way off: the car used the brakes on it's own or stopped accelerating, etc. Also, it is a nightmare to recover the car's control when you have to move left/right quickly and also decide if you want to use the brake or keep accelerating or none of the above. It was a real disaster.
So I used the road fighter/F1 spirit control layout.

As a plus, the game is fully compatible with the panasonic steering wheel which was included on the panasonic A1 together with the A1 spirit.
People sent me videos of them playing this game with that wheel. Fantastic!
