A letter from the past.

As I´m sorting things out and try to get an overview of my documents, I found a letter to the MSX community from Kay Nishi that I will not withhold you. It is dated April 2000 and was in preparation of his visit in Tilburg in April 2001. I found it in Mi-Chi´s documents, which he donated to us a while ago with other stuff.

As a bonus I scanned the original tR GT label, which you can download in hi-res from msx.pics.

It is in very poor condition, ´didn´t photoshopped it yet, ´ts just the original scan.

NYYRIKKI: I’ve heard the Matsushia Sony X-machine before, I think from Nishi as well at Tilburg (along with Machines with Software eXchangeability). I think it all comes down to, they thought MSX sounded cool and they could use the acronym to mean all sorts of things, the last one being Nishi’s favourite? But it was a long time ago so forgive me if I don’t recall exactly .

Yeah well, with MicroSoft involved it's quite easy to guess what MS stands for. That Nishi and Gates kinda stopped liking each other is a good motive to make the letters stand for something completely different.

Yeah, I think we have had this conversation few times in a past... just to complete it once again, here is the link to article where Nishi "admits" that he named MSX (MicroSoft eXtended BASIC) after MX missile.

I thought that MSX meant Music Sex eXtacy as some new prophet has told us.

There is a significant mistake. The 3DO company was founded in 1991 and started selling their consoles not before 1993. The tR was produced until 1994. But Kay Nishi mentioned 1990.
I guess this letter was send to someone in the netherlands after a first contact and in preparation of the comming fair.
I´m not sure if I´m holding an old laser print or a good xerography in my hands. It acciendly appeared to me after sorting old papers and MSX magazines. Did´nt noticed it before, so I suppose it belong to Mi-Chi´s stuff.
I didn´t intend to start a discussion ´bout the meaning of the TLA, but I was very staggered he had already a concept for a learning computer in his mind, like nowadays the RasPi.
