"The Adventures of Rudolphine Rur" is a Spanish text adventure, carried out with the DAAD parser from AD Adventures.
It is a port to DAAD of an adventure already published in 2005, for "modern" systems (Glulx virtual machine and web). Now, with the DAAD port, the adventure can be played in "retro" systems like:

  • ZX Spectrum,
  • ZX Spectrum Next,
  • Amstrad CPC,
  • Amstrad PCW,
  • MSX,
  • MSX2,
  • Commodore 64,
  • PC MS-DOS,
  • Atari ST and
  • Amiga.

If we focus on MSX systems, the adventure is available in 4 versions:

  • The tape version has no graphics and the texts are cut from those of 16-bit systems (Atari, Amiga, etc).
  • The disk version for MSX1 contains raster graphics on screen 2 and keeps the texts trimmed.
  • The disk version for MSX2 contains raster graphics on screen 8 and keeps the texts trimmed.
  • The version for copying to SD and running on a Rookie Drive or similar contains the same graphics as the disk version, but the texts are the same as the 16-bit versions, although to make it easier to read, the location description first has a reduced version, which can be extended with the instruction details.

In the next few days, a small physical print run will be released. We'll keep you posted.

Enjoy it!

Thank you for the news Dwalin, I have just downloaded and I would like to try it in a while. My MSX1 is always hungry for new games, I really love to try them.

Greetings from Spain.

Yes, in MSX1 you need to type "rur1" and "rur2" to play the game.

another question (sorry if it sound offtopic here in an msx forum): which tools you used for creating zx-spectrum +3 .dsk imagedisks? for that i only know mctrd, but it only creates .trd and .scl imagedisks (those "russian" formats), not .dsk...

There are two disk, one for each part. Rur2.com is in the second disk.
For made the Spectrum (and Amstrad) disk you can use CpcDiskXp.

ROM added for MSX2. The two parts of the adventure in a single cartridge. Screen 8 graphics, and original long texts.

Yes, but in the Rom version you can't use "save" command.

Would be cool if MSX2+ would be supported for even better image quality Smile

I am surprised (in a positive sense) how many new text adventures there have been for MSX recently. I'll have to try and find time to give them a spin...

The ROM for MSX has been updated, which is now valid for both MSX1 and MSX2. In addition, the MSX1 version now also includes long responses, and the use of the DETALLES (D) command to read the long description of the location.
