Just found another rom image laying around (and added to the folder sf2.)
You see, when scrolling is enabled the frame rate is limited by the scroll area. So in this sfigter5.rom, five characters are blitted in the same time (and possibly you can go up to six!), hence this may be stepping stone for a all out brawler / beat'm up... at decent 15 fps.
JoySNES/JoyMega support will be nice for this kind of game.
I don't see the point of making a game as similar as possible to the arcade today. It was something really good in the 80's to have games as close as the arcade as possible, because we didn't have emulators to play the arcade version at home. I already have the arcade version here, running in a emulator, and the same game running on SNES / PSX / Mega Drive and others. They all try to be as close as possible to the arcade. So I don't see a point of having another copy of the arcade.
Too bad for you if it doesn't interest you. Me I like to see the great titles work on MSX.
I never said that.
Clearly you didn't read my previous messages, where I said this game should have a cartridge release and that I would buy it if it was released on cartridge. So I am really interested on this game.
I just said that we don't have to stick 100% to the arcade game, we can have something new / different, but if that is the wish of the developer of the game, I'll respect that.
I agree with iamweasel here that variations on a existing game is fun for both sides if done properly. Extra players more adapted feel to the controls and even some changes in the gfx can make the port waaaaay more fun on the intended machine. Making it exact as possible is nearly impossible anyway.
Besides, Having variations make the port unique to the msx. Only on msx you can perform death moves
well, after sf2, a mk2, right?
we want fatalities.
it's a joke.

Or the possibility to unlock a few MSX specific fighters, like for example:
- Pixie
- Pentarou
- Michelle (From Starship Rendezvous)
- ...
And SCC music... that would be great. but, just dreaming here!
What was the name of the physcoworld character?
it would be a very interesting hidden character
PF is the best SF2 port for an 8-bit machine, better than Master System version, IMHO.

PC Engine from 1987 was an 8-bit console that was strong enough to compete with the SNES and Megadrive.
Pointless Fighter, together with SMW are the best games for MSX, through all generations.

I do agree 100%. And both deserve to be polished and finished for once and for all.

Same opinion. Now we alI can play the arcade and other versions of SF2 and SMW but what's the point? We are here because of MSX.
Don’t worry iamweasel2, I read your message the way you intended: The game doesn’t need to be an exact clone .
GhostwriterP: Cool stuff, thanks!

Death moves would be REALLY COOL and fun !
