Ah, you confirmed that on a real MSX1?

Of course. It's pretty much the same result on a real MSX1 as OpenMSX.
OpenMSX emules the MSXs better than other emulators.

I imagine the game works on MSXplayer since this emulator is not very evolved.

It works on MSX Player because it runs in MSX2+ mode. And game works great on MSX2 or better.

Very Impressive Shooter Game making use of very sophisticated techniques for multiplexing sprites and making all the graphics look more blurry kind of anti-aliasing.

This DEMO game was successfully tested with Turbo R A1ST 512KB RAM + MegaSCSI + Execrom (Ver1.2f) using Joymega Adapter.

Curious thing was on my SANNO MSX + 4MB External RAM + Rookie Drive NX + Execrom (Ver1.2f) the Joymega and JoySnes doesn't work properly so a typical MSX 2 Buttons Joypad was used instead.

Youtube Video

That's really surprise me is the size of this first DEMO version with just 32KB ROM you get a lot of fun.

Wow I'm speachless... so this game not only actually works on MSX, but also does not require MSX2 VDP, and it is a 32k rom!
What obscure trick does it use to have such a fast frame rate?
I was amazed at scrolling speed of Zanac but this is even faster.
Perhaps this software interlaced mode allows such speed?
And the music/sounds I've never heard anything similar.

For reference, the final 16-level game rom is the exact same (32k) size.

What always amazes me is where games like these manage to get all the sprites from. The screen just fills up with sprites including shadows, enemies, projectiles and we still have a players ship. Same happens in zanac. Thats 4 sprites per scanline. How they pulled this off is just plain ownage.

I definitely would like to see a technical review of this game. I presume sprites flicker a lot but you don't even notice because the game scrolls so fast.

Very, very, very impressive, to say the least.

But what impresses me the most is the graphic creativity, mainly :
- the interlaced tiles, which give almost the impression of a new color palette on the MSX1
- the giant countdown at the start of the level
- the huge lasers
- the enormous explosions

I'm not sure I'm a fan of this type of hyper-stressed-yet-simple shooter, but you got to admire the creativity that went into it. Bravo.

And don't forget translucid shadows!. Technically it's really a "tour de force"
