Brisk translation to English

The active MSX Translations collective has translated the game Brisk from Dutch to English. Brisk is a puzzle game once published with the Dutch/Belgium MCCM magazine.

Translations in the MSX community have mainly been focused on translations from Japanese. So it is a nice surprise to see a Dutch MSX2 game translated into English. Manuel and BiFi from MSX Translations took the amazing puzzler Brisk game and that replaced all Dutch words for English ones. Now this great game can also be enjoyed to the fullest by the non-Dutch speaking part of the MSX community.

Created for the MCCM disk subscription, it has all the elements of a good puzzle game: obstacles like water, fire and Ice. Interesting mechanics to turn traps on and off. And there are the occasional baddies to outsmart. This translation patch is for Brisk on MCCM disk 64 and the patched version on MCCM disk 68.

The game Brisk is also present in the Level Editor contest. Now, get lively and try this new patch.

I don't understand how the clumsy patch works, is there an IPS or a disk image to download somewhere.?

This is a patch for use on real MSX, under DOS1 and/or 2. Open the archive file (.lzh) to read the .txt file for more.

Why is there no available version of the assembled patcher?

Yes, there is a disk image downloadable "somewhere", if you know what I mean ;-)

tfh, in the archive from MSX Translations there are two mia paches, one v1.0 and another v1.1. On your site nothing is indicated. How to understand which one is which?

I haven't patched the disk myself. It came to me without a version number Smile The only way of finding out is patching both a v1.0 and a v1.1 and check the checksums I guess.
Maybe I'll have a look this weekend, but I'm a bit occupied at the moment.

yeah, great that they release all kinds of translations, but why not supply them all in the same format. ips is fine and useable for everyone, why need other means of patching? Thank god for tfh Smile

Thanx gdx, it’s done because of technical reasons, that makes sense.

If it was one file or a game was sector oriented IPS is obviously the way to go. If a lot of files are involved, saved files are on a disk, files could have different file names etc. Then a solution like MIA (or others, but there are not many options ) come into play.

Great that it was made by Manuel and BiFi!

I really liked this game when it came out, so I hope the translation will help some international MSX users discover this little gem as well!

Found it on MSX Banzai! I clicked on the wrong link the other time. It remains just how to recognize the corresponding versions.

I actually had completely forgotten I did some translation work (i.e. hack the disk image, I guess) on this cool game in 2010. But BiFi remembered and he worked it up to a clean patch, fixing several mistakes in my hacks. Thanks BiFi!

Now, it would be nice if we could get rid of the requirement to press CTRL... ONEDRIVE.COM seems to work, but it won't work in a BAT file (the rest isn't executed).... anyone got an idea?
