Composers for "hire"?

TL;DR: I'm hoping to find people who might potentially want to collaborate with future game projects by contributing music.

So if you've played any of my games (please consider those also my portfolio as an MSX dev), you may have noticed the audio side is nonexistent at best. Mix has about the best audio I can make, so I'm hoping to find someone who would be interested in collaborating in my future MSXdev projects.

I consider Mix done, and the next project on my board is another adventure game with the same engine as Jäästä and Step, this time with a folklore/horror theme. (TBH, it had that status even before I started working on Mix, so it might not be my next finished game.)

Since you probably work with some tracker or such program, I'd need that tracker's output format to have a ready-to-use ASM play routine that has straightforward permissions (read: license) about including it in projects.

I doubt I will be able to work on a new project until November or later. The "hire" in the title means I wouldn't be paying anything, but if the game entered MSXdev or such and won something, I'd be fine with you getting the prize. If you'd be interested, leave a message here.

I could be interested in giving it a go, as long as you can tell me what kind of music you would like.
I consider myself pretty good at making music for the MSX, however my songs rarely sound like typical MSX-songs, mainly because I've been trying them to not sound like typical MSX-songs Smile

That doesn't mean I am not capable of creating tunes in the same style as Konami if I would like to. I'm pretty good at mimicing other musicians' styles.

Anyway, you can listen to some of my works and let me know what you think. All songs below are created with Arkos Tracker II and confirmed to sound the same on real hardware.

So much depends on what kind of game I'll be making next, and that's still up in the air. I'm pretty sure that I won't be making another MSXdev'22 entry, but maybe I should start working on an engine for '23 already this summer. Of your songs, Hardy 0:43-1:10 was probably the best fit for what I have in mind as aspiration now (a behind-the-car racing game), but I'd have to add something to differentiate it from plain racing (flags in Buggy Boy, stars in Excite Truck, ...), and that would change what kind of music would fit.

Maybe I'll get back to you when I have an idea if my game concept is something I have any hope of successfully implementing?

I chose to link my previous songs so that you could get a feel of what I can do but I think the best idea would to compose a completely new song once I know the game. Much more fun that way too.

Sounds like a nice team is forming! I for one am looking (and listeningWink) forward to it.

If this is the case I can't wait to see what comes of it. Smile

Probably an average or sub-par game with a great soundtrack.

@Totta How should I contact you, btw?

Just send a mail to tottalmedia@gmail.com. Probably easiest that way.

Is this a good time to reveal I am a programmer too, however never for the MSX? I did quite some 6502-assembly back in my youth and nowadays I develop apps (games and applications) in Java (for Android) and Objective-C (for iOS). So who knows? I might be able to add some ideas to your future games to help you elevate them from average to slightly-better-than-average?

Haha, no! I meant to say that I'm looking forward for it with interest.
Behind-the-car driving games are scarce in the MSX landscape, and the hype is high: there have been a few threads in this forum about road rendering techniques and ideas, but as far as I know none of them ended up in a finished game.
