And while yer addit, could you make it a ROM that runs on a standard MSX1/16K/PSG? please?
/bullshit

NOP has done a wonderful job making use of external extensions that have been around, oh, a few years. Come to think of it, could have been V9990 too. anyway - I like the idea of going all out. And it works. Nice job fellaz.

This is it, play it.

I personally applaud the decisions made in the design of this game. I always thought that MSX was much more than making small cartridge games limited by space or the specifications of the base standard, the MSX1.

This game shows how far an MSX2 can go with minimally modern specs: expanded RAM, massive storage and upgraded sound.

You have laid the foundation stone of a new way of understanding MSX.

Just saying; Unknown Reality would not have existed if we were limiting ourselves. Most of the 256K expansions for the MSX-Audio were because of that demo.

Sales Discontinued would not have existed if we were limiting ourselves. Oh wait I am hearing an echo...

Haha, my take is that there is room for everything. Every MSX fan cares about something slightly different. Some care only about MSX1, some only about MSX2, some care about hardware, some only about collecting, etc. So, I think it's very healthy for different groups to work on different ends of development: limited specs vs open ended. In that way, no one is left out, and the whole community gets excited about at least some of the things that are happening Smile

SjaaQ: does this engine allow anyone to make any P&C-game using any screen modes, music players etc.? Or is it in its current state very much intertwined with $D?

So you make a game for 20+ years old hardware and people complain that the hardware specs are too high. This is hilarious. Big smile

For those, who complain: Get a job!

MrHydragon, congrats on finishing the game. I hope you have enjoyed the 32 hours playing it...

It's been a great experience, I hope you enjoyed it to see me suffering throughout the game.

And all this need for so much audio support, I remember the days, if you don't have the desired memory mapper, or music addon, yes you were not able to experience the full sound and all of the games and demos.

Simple, add it to the wishlist and play it another time or go for an emulator.
Like I said I do have the OPL4 cartridge, but I for example I am not an owner of a fast cpu MSX!
Like a TR or 7Mhz mod.
Ok it has a modification, but since the button for usage of the 7Mhz is broken, there's no such thing.
So that's a thing that I would love to see that modification being fixed now. ( but not doing that myself lol )

So I experienced the slow loads ingame and meh, yet not complaining, the game gives a lot in return, besides all the sounds, the dialogues you go through, and regarding to the puzzle element, that's a whole new level as well Wink

Great job, NOP ( Upcoming weekend a new chapter to play? Tongue )

Good question. I now only supports screen 8. But palette mode screens would be possible, so would screen 11 (I think that is the one I researched) and so would the bitmap mode for the v9990. But I don't think things would run faster at this moment. Animations are RLE compressed and real time decompressed (while drawing) so no waiting on the VDP there. The ego (main character) is mostly draw with the scaler function and therefore does not have any wait loops. I am currently investigating the v9990, I have ideas for another project.

I think if you want to improve either the graphics quality and speed I would adopt it for v9990 and pre-render the softsprites. But I rather build a new game than adapt SD for it. I've learned a lot from this project and would just rewrite most of the engine anyway.

As for the music player, I currently only implemented the NOP mod player. But since that code is not really part of SD it would be pretty easy to use another player, as long as it fits in ~15K of memory. It must also be able to be assembled and work at 0100-3FFF.

Yes, that's currently scheduled for saturday/sunday to check other entries as well, tonight, I got other duties so no streaming today, after all last night's stream was another 12hr run Smile
