With the MSXdev22 deadline just passed, the compo has received a good number of new and exclusive MSX games. In total, there are 32 games accepted and published. Now it's up to the jury panel to judge all of those.

The MSXdev22 compo, which officially started on January the first 2022, has reached the deadline for developers to submit their MSX games. This year's edition was "freestyle", meaning any MSX related hardware is allowed to be used. We have seen the results of that, as the game list has a good mix of both MSX1, as well as MSX-extravaganza titles. Since no less than 32 new MSX games have been added to the MSXdev history, we can only say: Nice job!

Here's an overview of all submitted games:

That is an impressive list of entries; just plain awesome! All listed games are free for download or to be played directly online. A juror panel of MSX experts have the glorious task of rating and scoring all of these wonderful additions. They have time to deliberate until the end of October 2022. With such a huge list of games to explore, they have a heavy task ahead.

Good luck to all contestants, everyone is a winner already, but the biggest win is for the MSX scene, as it's getting enriched with another 32 unique titles. While the MSXdev22 edition is still running, donations and sponsorships are still possible.

Just as many qualified games as in 2021, which already was a record year. And it's not just quantity: I usually aim to rank around the middle with my entry, but this year I expect to rank well below it, thanks to the quality of so many of the entries here. And that's how it should be.

I'd like to thank both the MSXDev'22 organisers & the competitor for their work and their entries. MSXDev'22 will give us quite some hours of fun and some very good reasons to fire-up those MSX machines again.

Thanks!

@Uninteresting: Ofcourse it's totally up to you how high you wish to aim with your productions, but I think you're quite talented, and could score really big next time - maybe with some help on especially the sound (and maybe graphics) department. Smile

@tfh: Many thanks to you and the invaluable support through your website as well! ♥

You know, 32 is good. It enables people to make a 4x8 grid of game-images for... say... a newspost. I suggest from now on we all submit entries until a 2^x amount is in. Hannibal

A couple of msx2 games are outstanding and not only because of the use of more advanced hw
The jury will have an hard time in finding a correct balance in the evaluations

I think they should have few games to tie for #1/#2 and #3. Because IMHO many games are on par fro quality/production values.

The barrage of games on the last week was quite something. I was expecting a good amount of submissions at the end, but not that much.

@wolf_ Maybe 40 would be best for next year. But also pretty hard to pull off.

@shalafi I recall seeing a graph depicting article submissions received by a scientific conference before the deadline maybe 15 years ago. Even that was very heavily focused on the last week/day/hour of accepting submissions. Human nature Smile

@max_iwamoto If the scoring is an average of the judges' scores like before, then I wouldn't think that's likely... but I don't know if they've already set in stone the rules how the monetary prizes are divvied up.

I think with this amount of high quality games they should be able to give prizes to first 10, that would include monetary prize and some hardware donations. Or maybe let people donate directly to developers right on MSX Dev website. So you can support MSX Dev in general and some developers directly.

@uninsteresting True, there's always a rush at the end, and same happened past year, but this time was even more tight. One week before the closing we had 22 games. Past year we had about 26.

Wow, 32 games is amazing! And man, the last couple of weeks were insane! Almost every time I logged into msx.org there was a new announcement of a new entry or two!!

Indeed, incredible list!

I have had time to test only very few of them briefly, but in few weeks I should have time to take a lot closer look and hopefully enjoy all of them. Thank you guys for all your hard work! It is great to know that when I get to my holiday, there is plenty of good stuff waiting for me!

Well done everyone!

I am struggling with health issues this year (still), but hopefully I have time soon to make more games.

I'm just glad I don't have to judge them, there are so many games and so little time! Smile
