It seems to be a homemade cart, apparently a piece of a magazine as a label. I just couldn´t find the game on generation MSX.

The starting Kanji (麻雀) states "Mah-jong". The boot screen shows the "MSX Fan" logo.

That´s all I could get. :-(

Any help is appreciated! :-)

I think the title is 麻雀パイのピラミッドを崩す麻薬的なゲーム that I translate by something like : An Addictive Game That Crumbles The Pyramids of Mahjong Tiles. (It's in the Japanese title style of the Game Master 2). I have never seen this game.

There is another puzzle game that uses Mahjong tiles. This is: Beautiful Girl Mahjong Puzzle MSX (美少女麻雀パズルMSX) by GameImpact.

The label is an introductory article about a BASIC game called "Hong Kong(香港)" published in the March 1988 issue of MSXFAN.
Is the game screen the same as the picture on the label?
It is also included in Disk Station No.7, and the logo of MSXFAN is displayed at startup.

Excellent! Thank you! :-)

It is indeed the same game pictured. Apparently someone converted it to ROM and burn a cart for it?

Should I try dumping it? Any tips?

Here´s the ROM inside a ZIP file if anyone´s interested:

BTW, the images in the original post don't show up for me; Chrome 112.0.5615.139 refuses to load them. I think that the issue is that they're using http: within a page served by https:; Chrome is trying to load them via https: and failing due to the site's HTTPS certificate being invalid (it's for *.prod.iad2.secureserver.net).

I can't see any image either but the rom looks similar to this one, right? A contributor to MSX FAN was awarded with a physical ROM of the contributed game that is labeled with the applicable MSX FAN article entry, in this case #1988-03 page 42. Indeed it's super rare and its previous owner is TAI the original contributor.

The error message you are seeing is probably this one, "This program is MSX2 only." that appears on MSX1 and turboR but not on MSX2+.

Oh, silly of me: I should have put the URLs in my last message; if you open them stand-alone you can view them just fine. (They simply won't embed in this forum.)

And yes, that error message makes sense since the cart label itself does say, "MSX2専用VRAM64K" ("Only for use with MSX2; VRAM 64K.")

When I click the link for the images, I get a file not found... Perhaps you could upload them to msx.pics

Thank you, this label is exactly from the MSX FAN page, the left part of the top is what Gdx translated, the front says "LOL. However in order to LOL you have to be really familiar with Shanghai we introduced on page 96. Even without knowing that, this is the deeply enjoyable excellent game." it indeed runs on VRAM 64KB MSX2. Aside from Disk Station 7-2 it's in Super Program Collection 1 as HONGKONG.P13.
