Just one day left before the dev22 circus closes doors. Developers have until Friday Sep 30th to enter the compo.
Donation and sponsoring for dev22 is possible until about the end of October. Any other donation after that will automatically be for dev23. Yes, we're already planning that one.

But... will the rules allow MSX3, that's the question! Hannibal

If I'm reading the vibe correctly, they won't even allow MSX2 next time.

That would be quite unfortunate... Good entries for MSX2, and honestly a bad game is a bad game on any system and a great game is a great game on any system... Just hope you are misreading the vibe. Tongue

They'll get empirical results on how well games for different hardware can be judged together this year, so... we'll see. I'm happy either way, since both cases let me make MSX1 games.

That would be unfortunate, it was about time it wasn't just MSX1. There are some real nice entries this year.

That would be very bad, as I imagine that there are some MSX 2 games that couldn't be finished for this year and postponed to the 2033 edition (myself included).

Next year will mark the 40th MSX anniversary, so I suppose the MSX Dev should be an epic edition, and allow all generations, expansions, etc.

The open competition has shown that developers aren't shy to submit MSX1 games. And since gameplay is an important factor these games can still win the competition.

At the same time, one might wonder what the endless MSX1 obsession is among entries. Use screen 4, for extra sprites (or nicer sprites), use a custom palette, and you already have the same game but it looks better. Shifting the focus to MSX2 doesn't mean you shouldn't use pattern mode anymore, it also doesn't mean that all MSX2 games are going to be RPGs. For some reason this idea seems to have manifested itself in this scene.

I can't speak for others, but I have no interest in MSX2. I'd rather work on a game for a system I have (even if they're all broken) and whose limits I have a small grasp of but haven't even nearly reached. My games are first a constrained programming/design challenge for me, and far behind that a game for others to enjoy.
