Ok, so this is a secret post for Manuel only
Suggestions are a good thing :)
That water looks awesome! And btw, I love the slow movement of snails, coordinated with their animation!
Yay, much better! It gives so much more life to the looks of things.
The movement of the water is somehow not entirely smooth though, do you have an irregular frame skipping pattern or is it the gif?
Some tile animations, even if they are very slow (like once per 32 frames or so), are so worth it! Can you do more with such in the background, like these clouds?
I rather think it's the framerate of the video that disturbs the perceived smoothness of the water.
Thank you guys! I agree, it adds a lot. I will continue to do all these "small" things going forward, just to make the experience better! I will focus on the gameplay too of course. The crux of a game - it needs to *fun*(!) and rewarding to play.
BTW: Wolf is right, it's the gif that makes the little irregularity.
Actually, the speed is a little problem, or merely the size of the pixels / the low resolution. I'd like to make the water move slowly, but the given the size of the pixels, low-frequent moves of these "huge" pixels doesn't look good. It looks jerky. So you need to add a certain speed to make it look smoother. But if you make them go "proper" smooth, the whole scene gets very stressful --- the water moves too fast. So, the above speed is a middle ground that works ok'ish.
As for the clouds: Their parallax ability probably fills up their "featureset" methinks. Right now, I believe the other themes are more in need of anims/bling compared to this one.
Love the Wonderboy tribute
By the way, you could take a look how the water tile animation is done in Maze of Galious. It looks very good, I think.

Thanks for the tip. It looks good, I agree.
I might, or might not change the current animation. I'll leave it as is for the time being. Pretty happy with it in general.
Another month, another show and tell, eh?
Here's another theme, called "Outside Castle". Every theme has a different look, some distinct gameplay elements or enemies and music. And boy! I dig the new tune from Wolf here - check it out.
Lately I've been doing more and more optimizations and polish. Things like adding sfx and animation to the bullet firing, player landing sfx and making bricks bump just like the question mark, better transitions, and so on.
This time I also wanted to show new enemies and a level with higher difficulty. Some people here might find it interesting that the little innocent scene at the end with 6 enemies, actually, technically, shows 36 sprites on screen at once I expect there to be some scenes with more. Theoretical max in this game is 43 or 44, but I'm prolly out of cycles by then
That looks cool! I wouldn't say there were that many sprites though...
Some polishing idea: these bridges would be fun if they would move down a bit because you walk on them...
Also, these big bullets, they appear out of thin air. Could use a bit more polish
Keep up the fantastic work!
