Goodbye Micromancers!

The MSX software publishing company Micromancers just announced its departure from the MSX scene. Halting their activities per direct, the company is now selling their products that are still in stock at a reduced price.

It is with great sadness to announce the shut down of Micromancers MSX sales. The publishing company pushed a handful of extra ordinary modern MSX game titles the past years. Games like Hikaru's Children of the Night and Multiverse, and, Maltano's Suite Macabre, and recently Midway's Wizard of Wor, were all manufactured by Micromancers with high quality in mind. Not only the games themselves are unique pieces of MSX history, the packaging of those products is of equal awesomeness.

There are just a few products left on the shelf to get your hands on, so be quick to order. Get in contact with Micromancers if you are interested in the last batch of their recent publication "Wizard of Wor", for example.

Goodbye Micromancers, you sure made an impact.

I read something about this a couple of weeks ago on Twitter. AFAIK there was some posts talking about their carts and MSXVR, but I couldn't understand what was going on - just that SOMETHING happened and they quit :/

I'm very sad... it's a terrible new... I hope they reconsider return back to their magnificent work... if the issue was a f***ing stupid "user", he can't beat thousands of people that love their and all the other homebrew projects that dedicate all the love in their games! COME BACK PLEASE! WE LOVE YOUR WORK!

im not to familiar with the people behind Micromancers, are they the same as Hikaru games or Maltano?
Otherwise cant another publisher (matra, msxcartridgeshop, reprofactory etc) pick up the games?

Nevertheless its always sad to see a group of folks leave the scene.

Indeed, the obvious move is to license their MSX games with another publisher. Collectorvision has published ColecoVision games from Maltanto, no idea if they do the same with the rest of the teams. If Collectorvision has plans to start selling MSX products it's the best start possible Smile

These are sad news. I wasn't aware about what was going on but I realized later the were quitting the MSX scene. It is a great lost for MSX game lovers as they products were full of quality.

Fuck the troll that started this, BTW!

Sorry if I speak my mind about this, but we've seen quite some people and development groups quitting "the scene" because of "piracy" and "trolls".
At least, that's usually the explanation. To me, it's a "DELETE IT ALL" overreaction and uncalled for dramatic reaction. Like if you wonder if people will weep over your grave if you die, so you commit to a half-assed suicide attempt and after that, look if they'd mourn over you.
(They will realize that they loved me when I'm dead, boohoohoo)

Sure - people gonna troll you. People gonna make you sad. People are not always going to appreciate what hard work you put into your hobby work. That's life. Fucking deal with it.

I probably must profusely apologize for where I stand again, but I think it's just weak.
But eh, quitters gonna quit. Was planned to be so, anyway, and things like this are the best excuse.

Not everyone is the same. And not everyone will react/think/act like you.
If you're doing something for fun and people are able to take away that fun with some toxic behaviour I can understand such a decission. And frankly: a reaction like the above is just a bit like a cheap kick in the back afterwards. Especially looking at the way you put it. There is no need for that, except maybe for letting go of some personal frustration. But this is NOT the way.

I do not speak particularly for this case there of which I do not know the true history. Anyway people often throw the stone to those who criticize but not on those who cannot stand criticism. For me, they are the worst.

You're right at that and I've might put it too harshly.
See, I can understand the disappointment and my comment wasn't meant to give a "kick afterwards".
It was just my way of venting my own disappointment at giving up on a specific (why MSX?) "scene" in its totality, for what doesn't seem much. I could fill all of the barrels at Shadow Moses island with the toxicity that I've experienced. Wink But as you say - not everyone is the same.
What they decide to do with their lives is up to them, and my opinion on it will probably not change a damn thing about that. Smile

Without an official statement, we are just left guessing what happened. However, their decision may backfire a bit. Because at some point people will regard their products as abandonware.
