GGMSX - MSX adapter for Sega Game Gear

Have you ever felt the urge to play MSX games while on the road? Well, you could of course run an MSX emulator on your smartphone, but thanks to a recent development in Japan you can now do it in a more retrogaming fashion (or should we say hipster?) with the GGMSX adapter. This extension to the Sega Game Gear makes it possible to play MSX1 cartridge games directly on the Game Gear. The result? See for yourself!

For further details, there is an interesting topic on SMSpower

Incredible. Would an MFRSCC+SD work on this ?

Awesome! I remember seeing prototypes of this a few months ago on Twitter. It was being displayed from a fair in Japan. I'd love to order one, especially since my Game Gear is a blue version. It would be perfect for this!

I think the I/O are not usable. Fun project. Cool
It's a shame that the screen resolution is lower.

Looks like a lot of fun! What's also funny: the cartridge is bigger than the screen!

Absolutely lovely when someone comes up with a solution to a problem that no one has. Thumbs up!
If you get one, please remember to post us a picture with Panasonic MSX-AUDIO or similar cartridge.
I hope next version will come with cassette port as well. Tongue

If the MFRSCCF+SD works with the adapter C-BIOS, there are lots of games that could be launched with SofaRun, including disk and cassette images (I guess there's no keyboard interface yet Smile).

Just need to find a Game Gear on eBay, replace the capacitors (they are usually dead on old Game Gears), replace the crappy LCD screen with a modern one, make the internal modifications for the adapter, flash the C-BIOS, etc... Anybody willing to try and show that in Nijmegen ? Come one guys Big smile !

I would recommend to use a slot-expander (without cable of course), to enjoy both Music Module and Panasonic MSX-AUDIO. Wondering about the batteries life time with that setup Tongue

WOW!!!!

One question: If I use a Kralizek's Goonies "R" good enough game, it will work? Which video mode it will work, MSX1 or SMS?

MSX1, sure. Smile Goonies looks for Franky card. Franky uses different I/O port address than SMS.

By the way... I think the GG colours are very similar to franky/sms colours. TMS part of SMS/GG VDP, I think, will be the same. Then to play goonies "franky" version or MSX1 version has not differences.

@Ramones I thought Franky/Playsoniq used the same I/O ports used on SMS (wait a minute: Don't SEGA harware uses exclusively Memory Mapped peripherals?)

Nice! Cool
I wonder what level of compatibility it can reach.
Now, I would like to see an adapter for Genesis / Nomad.
By the way, pictures show some SCC games. Does it mean that SCC is included in the adaptor?

this is so cool but the adapter is tall and the game cartridge might shake and ruin your session
I think if its like the GG master system adapter will be great
im wondering how i can order this
