The second entry in #msxdev Compo 2014 is by syn: "Coliseum Clash", a scifi-themed arcade-style action game, where the player must take out his or her enemies by shooting and running. The (tentative) requirements will be a MSX2+ with MSX-DOS2 and MSX-Music, with optional support for MSX-Audio and Joymega Adapter (for Sega Megadrive joypad).

Syn started learning to code assembly towards the end of 2012 for the first edition of #msxdev Compo, submitting his techdemo as an entry after a few weeks of hard work. Although he didn't had the time to compete in the compo last year, he is now more motivated than ever to realize his childhood dream of creating a full, playable game for the MSX2+.

There are no public screenshots or videos available yet, but to make up for this, syn has decided to share some of his concepts and tests that were made in preparation of this project:

- An old video of a techdemo, now made public. Although the graphics and music used are not going to appear in the actual game, this video shows the general idea/concept of it
- Artwork: Ideas for a male and a female hero character, some concept art for enemies/bosses and an under construction hero sprite

With 2 entries already, this year's edition of the #msxdev Compo is looking quite promising. And with a few more months until the deadline, we can be pretty sure that a few more nice projects will follow. For more information about the compo and on how to participate, just follow the link below.

Looks sweet!

Btw, I hope you won’t require MSX2+ BIOS… Then it will also run on my Philips NMS 8245 with V9958 upgrade Smile.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Now I hope I don't disappoint you Wink

Btw I forgot to mention that those sketches were my first trials with drawing on a graphical tablet (galaxy note 8.0), after not having drawn a thing for over 20 years or so (+ I was never good at it). So this is my excuse for the difference in quality between the first and second collage Smile

hah let me fix those broken pieces of illusions for you:

I will finish my game, and I will surely try to make the deadline. Even in the worst case scenario that I don't, it will not be deleted/abandoned, but finished on a later day Big smile As long as I am interested in MSX development, I will work on it Tongue

Besides, the reason that I simplified my idea a lot compared to the original IS so I can finish it in time Wink (it went from Symphony of the Night clone/10 years project to a simple run and shoot that takes a bit less time to finish Wink )

And about Inferno, Arkhan & Co are about to finish their PC-Engine project Atlantean, and once done, he will continue working on Inferno.
